A hundred years ago someone could have taken this guy out and be hailed a hero. Now-a-days the media will roast you alive and you'll lose everything fighting off lawsuits for the next 30 years and probably serve major jail time. Oh and he was just turning his life around too.Mexican Kerry wrote:Yeah but its a strange situation (and one I've never been in). What the hell do you do if you see someone out walking on the street with a rifle in hand? I walk to my truck with a rifle if I'm going out shooting, I wouldn't want to get popped by the neighborhood watch.
Tough call. Looking back on the events yeah its easy to say "should have shot that guy in the head when he passed my house" but I bet anyone that did run into him was probably confused and just didn't know what the hell was going on. We are a society of people who wants the freedom of carrying firearms but don't want the responsibility of confronting someone (or making a judgement call when something seems amiss.)
Is this a dig at what I said earlier?Phil_Osophy wrote:Good thing there are few law abiding people that carry guns in canada. Somebody may have shot this poor guy.
No it wasnt a shot at you (no pun intended).Mexican Kerry wrote:Is this a dig at what I said earlier?Phil_Osophy wrote:Good thing there are few law abiding people that carry guns in canada. Somebody may have shot this poor guy.
I don't want to shoot someone. I don't want to have to make a call on whether or not I pull the trigger on someone I see if I don't know the details of the situation. If I were a witness to him shooting at others, and had a full understanding of what was going on that might be different. However, I am a recreational shooter. I make no pretense about being trained to deal with aggression.
When I said tough call I meant it. I value human life. There are those who say a bullet is too good for a person like the shooter in this case. I may have feelings that agree with it, but I (and probably most that may have encountered him during the time in question) am not qualified to make that judgement.
