I've owned a few very nice watches over the years, but for everyday wear these days I buy the cheapest digital watch I can find that has a nylon band and dual time-zone capability (the former for durability, the latter because I live and work in different time zones). When the battery dies (usually after 2-5 years) I pitch it and buy another. They usually run $8-15.

It's not as cool as wearing a Swiss automatic with a high-dollar logo, but nobody will *ever* try to stick me up for my watch. ;)

I have a couple of Citizen Eco-Drive watches powered by sunlight that have held up unbelieveably well, I am really hard on watches, so this is saying something. Unfortunately, they run a bit more money than you indicated you wanted to spend.

my phone getting dropped and having to pull it out of my pocket every 30 minutes is why I'm wanting to start wearing a watch.
