Good question. I grab the forend with a thumb-over grip and activate the tail cap switch with the backside of my index finger, between the first and second joint. It's easier to do than to describe.ChopperDoc wrote:Frailer wrote:...Question on your light setup: With the sling on there do you have issues getting to the tailcap button? I don't see a tape switch.

With that setup, the support hand (behind the sling loop) will thrust forward on the handguard using the sling loop itself to activate the tail cap switch.ChopperDoc wrote:Interesting. Usually you see this utilized on carbine length handguards but due to the support arm extended grip the setup you see is becoming more and more prevalent.

Yeah, I activate my light the same way, have the same mount. I figured that one of two things might happen:325MOUTguru wrote:With that setup, the support hand (behind the sling loop) will thrust forward on the handguard using the sling loop itself to activate the tail cap switch.ChopperDoc wrote:Interesting. 1) inadvertent momentary activation of the light by pressure on the sling swivel there in normal grip
2) unreliable activation of the light due to the sling swivel there.
I have been using a thumb over grip but took that bayo lug sling swivel off and installed a Magpul sling mount and use the MS3 sling mostly in single point mode for operation. But hey, if it works that is what counts. I have not tried it like that, just making some assumptions based on how it looks I guess.

Largely your assumptions are correct.
I ran one of the AAs we tested that way and didn't care for it due to the reasons you listed.
