Re: Casting 9mm
Ran a batch of 147gr today. Wound up with 339 after it’s all done. Just over 7lbs of lead.

357 after casting and water quenched. Dropping in water is more for cooling off quicker than adding hardness.

Re: Casting 9mm
Powder coated flame red.
A few thin spots, but they will be far from transonic and leading won’t ( or shouldn’t) be an issue.

Weight post powder coating is a little heavy. Most were right around 148.5gr.

Now to decide on a powder. I have titegroup and cfe pistol. Recently read titegroup isn’t ideal for pc projectiles and cfe burns too slow for heavy 9mm to cycle in an ar9.

Re: Casting 9mm
$.027= primers ($27/k of s&b)
$.0105=lead (.50/lb from wheel weight lead)
$.0103=powder ($21.95/lb of titegroup)
$.00= brass (pretty much free anywhere)
I can load 147gr for around $0.05 a round.
Of course it takes a lot of effort to get ammunition that cheap, but I have people ask frequently if it’s worth the effort. I think so.
The 147gr loads are for my ar9 exclusively. I don’t shoot it as much as pistols.
115gr 9mm are less than $0.01 each

Data looks solid. If I can find some, I’ll probably pick it up to try. Thanks!Dustin wrote:What about unique ? It’s an old school powder or maybe pb?iron369 wrote:Now to decide on a powder. Re: Casting 9mm
Crazy how quiet 147gr are out of pistols and some rifles suppressed. The 168(?) were crazy quiet even out of rifles, but drop like a shot put ball...haha
I need to build another 9mm pistol since mine was stolen in my break in. I had ridiculous money in it. I don't have a single host for my Octane45 currently. I want to pick up a PC9 carbine also.

Re: Casting 9mm
Power Pistol is great for PC boolits.
I have some Unique propellant to spare if you wish to try it. A wee bit on the dirty side, but a solid choice.
Bullseye is another great propellant when charge weights are 3-4 grs.

I’ve been running on a stash of factory 147gr for a while. It is stupid how quiet it is.Niceguy wrote:Crazy how quiet 147gr are out of pistols and some rifles suppressed. The 168(?) were crazy quiet even out of rifles, but drop like a shot put ball...haha

Re: Casting 9mm
Dirtiness is probably my biggest issue at this point. Anytime I shoot it at an indoor range, I find myself apologizing for the smoke cloud I created. LOLGotRDid wrote:Power Pistol is great for PC boolits.
