Can you take pervy shots from real far away with that big lens? I'm asking for a friend...

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Well, the focal length for a "normal" (apx 1:1) lens on a 4/3 sensor is considered to be 23mm so a lens with a FL of 300mm should give you apx 13x (300/23).
So is 13x good enough?

I know nothing about fancy cameras, I am heading to Europe this fall, would this be good for pictures there of the scenery and people? Basic tourist pictures and easy to operate?

If you don't know what you're doing and don't plan to learn... I'd just use your phone camera, if you have a modern smartphone from one of the big names. The results won't be worth lugging around an extra backpack for all this camera gear. If you want to learn, this package is stupidly low priced. The only thing I'd upgrade is a larger storage card, also super cheap these days.
I'm trying to convince my buddy to buy this, but doubt he does it.

yeah- what she said....buuuut....with just the 14-42 lens and the auto setting, it's a great all around camera that you can get good shots with, and have some zoom capabilities without lugging a big mess of stuff- no bigger than most point-and-shoots.
