What color to paint the interior of my "Storm Shelter?"
I am finally done with the dirty parts of construction of my "storm shelter." Now I need to paint. What colors? The door is black cherry metallic.

I wasn't trying to be tacticool. The stuff we build at work gets bare wood or Devthane "desert tan" and it looks great. Nice and bright but not like a hospital

Red smeared handprints in a few locations, a few rusted hanging chains and a meat hook.

Shades of blue are supposed to be the most calming colors . ( if you plan on ever staying in there for any period of time )

Wow! I'm impressed with the build!! Have no idea what color to paint it. I'd likely do a light grey or tan. Neutral.
What are you going to do on the floor? Maybe those soft cushioned floor tiles? Pretty cheap for a nice floor. Or you could roll some cheap carpet but keep it short so you don't lose parts and springs in it.
So is there a build thread on this? I like the way you reinforced the ceiling. I like it all actually.

Re: What color to paint the interior of my
I am liking the floor a desert tan/kaki/FDE epoxy.
Several people on FB think I should clear coat the ceiling. I like the idea, but I don't know if it will stick to bare steel.

This is now a build thread.
In September I had the blocks put in. The blocks are filled with concrete and rebar.
Then the door came in and picked that up into place.
The ceiling is 1/4" plate cut 2' wide. I welded 4" flat bar to the top and bolted it to the adjoining plate. I used self tapping bolts so there are not any nuts on the outside.
The walls are covered with Akro Mills louvered panels. I have a ton of Akro Mills bins and some hangers from https://www.secureitgunstorage.com.
The network stack has my Swann NVR, Cisco 2504 wireless router, Cisco 3750x switch, Hue bridge, Smart Things hub, and UPS.

Clear will stick to steel but I've never been able to completely keep it from rusting. It's streaky when it rusts underneath and looks like crap. That's just my experience. I've seen it done well, but it's sure not as easy as it looks

Will it still rust with it inside and dry? I could understand if it was outside in the rain and road salt.PDM wrote:Clear will stick to steel but I've never been able to completely keep it from rusting. Re: What color to paint the interior of my "Storm Shelter?"
Glad you mentioned that. It's been a long time, but I think it was fine while inside.
If it's dry in there, my bet would be on it working just fine

I hope it doesn't rain on it. If it did, it did its job as a tornado shelter and I'm not too worried about rust.PDM wrote:Glad you mentioned that. It's been a long time, but I think it was fine while inside.

It was 45% humidity this morning. I still have to connect the drain line for the dehumidifier.Mike wrote:You might want to monitor humidity in there and consider a dehumidifier. I've read of guns rusting in rooms set up like that.
