SA M1A SOCOM 16
So I picked this up yesterday in a trade (sans optic)...
My dilemma is the muzzle brake....any ideas on removing it? (Without damage.... )
I tried vise grip with a piece of heavy duty fabric to protect it...but to no avail....not any looser ... and I niw have some ugly scrapes on the said device....
I'd really like to suppress it and see how it does...
Any and all ideas welcome....
As you can see, there are no wrench flats or anything. ....
Thanx....
Allan

Maybe its just the pic but it looks like the sight block and brake are all one piece. Looks to me like your cant take the brake off without dismantling other parts.

Re: SA M1A SOCOM 16
If it breaks down like an M1Garand, and it looks like it might, then the piece below the muzzle device should unscrew. Then the whole block including the front sight should unscrew off the end of the barrel. This would mean a new muzzle device would need the sight and under lug attached as well.

Who is the rifle maker? Nevermind, I see it says SA...is it OLD SA or new SA? I have not seen a setup like that.

You'd need something like this to be able to put different devices on it

Re: SA M1A SOCOM 16
After further inspection... There is no seam ... and I was able to get to the site Sean pointed out ... (Delta P Design) ... and there is indeed a device I will be needing...
So instead of spending $225 for that one, I believe I will be taking the piece down to the shop and see if the boys at Stamler Machine can 'work some magic' for me ... I'd really hate to not be able to run this thing suppressed.
Thanx everyone for your ideas/observations...

Re: SA M1A SOCOM 16
I had a guy in Texas message me on FB wanting to trade his M1A SOCOM for my AR9. If he was local that would have been damn tempting...lol

Re: SA M1A SOCOM 16
Be aware that SA does not sell the muzzle device/front sight combo separately. Any permanent modifications to it will be hard to reverse/replace.
