Sadly this is true...especially with the explosion in their popularity in recent years.baknblack wrote:Why would they. It's a cash cow.

The funny thing is when the NFA was started the $200 tax stamp was a lot more money relatively and it was really to put NFA items out of financial reach of everyday folks. Nowadays the $200 still sucks but it's almost more of just an annoyance. It's actually kind of shocking that they never increased that tax with inflation.

Shouldn't be a tax, "shall not be infringed. .... unless it is cool, quiet, scary looking, auto" must be missing from what I've seen but apparently it is there.ssracer wrote:Sadly this is true...especially with the explosion in their popularity in recent years.baknblack wrote:Why would they. Re: Act to remove suppressor a from nfa oversight
Anyone remember the last time the govt removed a preexisting tax? I don't.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Me either, I found this extremely funny for some unknown reason.WLJ wrote:Anyone remember the last time the govt removed a preexisting tax? I don't.

It won't pass, I wish it would... but I won't hold my breath. The whole Class 3/ NFA shit is all one big racket and the .gov plans to keep it that way and expand it whenever possible

Re: Act to remove suppressor a from nfa oversight
It's about control, not money. I would be very surprised if taxes collected come close to covering the operational costs for the NFA branch of the ATF. Just think of all the overpaid paper pushers and bureaucrats being paid to take part in the infringement of our rights, as well as lights, water, maintenance, electronics, office supplies and legal staff. SOT fees may help out the bottom line, but the tax and forms are simply a nuisance intended to discourage civilian ownership, specifically lower to middle class individuals.ssracer wrote:Sadly this is true...especially with the explosion in their popularity in recent years.baknblack wrote:Why would they. Truth, they take our real money elsewhere.Tyler wrote:It's about control, not money. We pay taxes annually on items we already own. The logic is buried deep below the ocean floor in an impenetrable vault with 12 locks and no keys.
