99 Corolla Beater
1999 Corolla VE. 5 speed, 164,500 miles.
Tires decent
Battery good
Had regular oil changes all its life
If you're looking for the performance of a Ferrari Enzo and the comfort of an Escalade, this is not the vehicle for you. Need a pizza delivering, bop around the city, dirty, inconspicuous on 32nd street hoopdie, this may be you.
Issues:
Left Rear Bumper dented from being run into at a light (hit and run)
Driver door was dented all up and banged back into shape from my being side swiped
Burns about a quart of oil per 1500 miles
In extremely cold weather (below 20) the car won't turn over sometimes. If you pump the clutch you can usually get it to go. I believe the shutoff switch you have to depress with the clutch needs replacing or bypassing. There is a wire next to the battery you can touch to it to power the solenoid and start the car should this happen in the winter.
Suspension doesn't feel great but I don't know it means it's bad
I gotta get $1000 firm

The only belt I've ever had changed is the serpentine belt. I'm it not a car guy. I have the oil changed and when something breaks I call a friend.plumber_bob wrote:Has the timing belt been changed?

I really could use this as a backup car. But I just don't have the space for it. Other wise I'd be all over it.KYgundude wrote:Is a real bitch to sell a car on Craigslist. I post it and within 4 hours it's on page 7. /bump

Plus I'd bet it gets way better mileage than my '94 F150!
Anyway, GLWS

Re: 99 Corolla Beater
Later this afternoon I'll probably be taking the car to Carmax and selling it to them. They gave me a very good offer. I'll let it go before that for $900. Better move quick though.

I've dealt with Carmax twice now, once for my mother's car and once for mine, and they're easy to deal with.KYgundude wrote:Later this afternoon I'll probably be taking the car to Carmax and selling it to them. There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.
