Firearms in cars on UPS property legal?

I was just wondering since UPS is basically airport property is it legal to have a gun in your car? I'm under the impression that you can according to the law, but they have a sign at the entrances to the parking lots that's says otherwise.

Why is it illegal to have a gun on airport property (ie in the parking garage)?? It is not federal property and not one of the prohibited areas. Maybe so at the post office or military part of the airport area.

I was under the impression that you could carry into the common area of an airport outside the terminal security. I will look up the laws and see what I can find.

Except as provided in KRS 527.020, no license issued pursuant to this section shall
authorize any person to carry a concealed firearm into:

(a) Any police station or sheriff's office;
(b) Any detention facility, prison, or jail;
(c) Any courthouse, solely occupied by the Court of Justice cour
troom, or court proceeding;
(d) Any meeting of the governing body of a county, municipality, or special
district; or any meeting of the General Assembly or a committee of the
General Assembly, except that nothing in this section shall preclude a member
of the body, holding a concealed deadly weapon license, from carrying a
concealed deadly weapon at a meeting of the body of which he or she is a
member;
(e) Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic
beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the
establishment is primarily devoted to that purpose;
(f) Any elementary or secondary school facility without the consent of school
authorities as provided in KRS 527.070, any child caring facility as defined in
KRS 199.011, any day care center as defined in KRS 199.894, or any certified
family child care home as defined in KRS 199.8982, except however, any
owner of a certified child care home may carry a concealed firearm into the
owner's residence used as a certified child care home;
(g) An area of an airport to which access is controlled by the inspection of
persons and property; or
(h) Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.

I won't give advice on how but people travel with firearms and it goes on as checked baggage so it would have to be legal to have firearms on airport property.

When the baggage is handed over to be checked through to the flight, the firearm is then NOT in your possession so it does meet the law. .

I've dropped a few people off at the airport, and always carry, even if I am walking them to security.

KY state laws says you can have a firearm in your vehicle on company property regardless of that companys policy & that the company can be held responsible(ie pay you off) if they bring action against you for it. whatever is inside your car is your property.like an Embassy is a countrys property no matter where its located.you can carry on faa property up to the guard shack.the way i've always read the sign is that its illegal if you arent allowed to have one.(like an ex con or something).i know mgmt & union who carry out there.the inside of your car is none of their business even if its parked on their lot.state law trumps ups policy .

KRS 237.106 Right of employees and other persons to possess firearms in vehicle -- Employer liable for denying right -- Exceptions.

(1) No person, including but not limited to an employer, who is the owner, lessee, or occupant of real property shall prohibit any person who is legally entitled to possess a firearm from possessing a firearm, part of a firearm, ammunition, or ammunition component in a vehicle on the property.

Hb 313: A loaded or unloaded firearm or other deadly weapon shall not be deemed concealed on or about the person if it is located in any enclosed container, compartment, or storage space installed as original equipment in a motor vehicle by its manufacturer, including but not limited to a glove compartment, center console, or seat pocket, regardless of whether said enclosed container, storage space, or compartment is locked, unlocked, or does not have a locking mechanism. No person or organization, public or private, shall prohibit a person from keeping a loaded or unloaded firearm or ammunition, or both, or other deadly weapon in a vehicle in accordance with the provisions of this subsection. Any attempt by a person or organization, public or private, to violate the provisions of this subsection may be the subject of an action for appropriate relief or for damages in a Circuit Court or District Court of competent jurisdiction. This subsection shall not apply to any person prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to KRS 527.040. having said all of that I wouldn't trust anyone out there to know anything about it. I would go with Don't Ask Don't Tell

Correct, I was giving the initial answer of it being in the car.

Even if it ain't in the car, you can carry in the airport area as long as it is not into the restricted areas where you have to submit to a search. So, based on multiple Statutes, we can confirm that carrying in the UPS parking lot is okay as long as you can access that parking lot without submitting to a search.
If you are a UPS employee you can leave it in the car, again, as long as your parking area is not a restricted place you access on airport property that could make you and your vehicle subject to search.

my wife ysed to work for TSA at the Louisville airport. and you are good to go until you go thru security. prior to security you are under local laws and the rules of the airport. at the TSA check point you enter federal jurisdiction and are subject to their laws/rules. i'd say if you are at UPS and keep it in your car there will not be an issue.
