The Chicken Thread
Realized I never did this! I am a chicken lover at heart and have had my fair share of failures, predator attacks, and cuddly chickens. If you live in the city or hell even country and want to get into these awesome stupid birds let me know and I will do my best to answer.
Ask away and from time to time I do have chickens for sale (hopefully ducks this year too!)

Re: The Chicken Thread
I like chickens too.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Exactly what part of a chicken is a nugget?

Re: The Chicken Thread
I'm legitimately interested. Hopefully I'll be getting some hatchlings this spring. Have you tried free range and cooped? Any difference in production or overall health?Chickenlady wrote:I hate you guys. Take a serious thread and shit it all up with shit. Shitters.

Re: The Chicken Thread
You know that great taste you can only get in a home grown tomato , it applies to chicken as well.
I got around 20-25 chickens, they free range and coop at night. We don't name them but they are friendly , heck they will jump in the car with ya, try to walk in the house, the whole click of them will beat the hell out of the cat for a chunk of bacon, cat is so chicken shy.

Re: The Chicken Thread
Tyler I will have chicks for sale the first week of March if you didn't want to hatch them. THey will be a mixed bag of brown egg layers.
Ducks will either be ordered now or in April for all interested. They will be runner ducks.
I do not free range anymore. A hawk, fox, and 2 boxers made sure of that. This year electric fencing and bird netting goes up. They will be in a large enclosed area for their enjoyment.
The predators were not kind to me last yaer.

Re: The Chicken Thread
The eggs are vastly different than store bought. I get so sad every time I open a store bought egg. Cry a little.

Re: The Chicken Thread
You do not need a rooster for hens to lay. The do it on their own because they are creepy creatures.Wyldman wrote:You gotta have a rooster before you can have layers, my friend.Tyler wrote:No, just layers. Exactly.Tyler wrote:They'll lay, the eggs just won't produce an embryo if I'm not mistaken..
Wait till you slaughter a producing hen. You get about 10-15 eggs in various stages of development when you gut em. It's neat and disgusting all at the same time lol
