larger caliber AR's

Post by 21299 » Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:51 am

Within 100 miles of the Louisville area, what gun stores have a good selection of 308 AR's? I'm looking to buy my first and want to handle a few before hand.

A real Armalite AR-10 or MegaMaTen are the only real choices. Anything else is a wannabe, at best.

I built Anderson AR-10 from the kit they sell ... Not bad ... especially for the price ...
Heard that it was kinda picky on ammo though ...

Armalite seems to be the only AR10 with great reviews.

I was going to get a S&W AR10 but the S&W forums don't talk to favorable about them unless you're willing to do some work yourself.

I'll second Wyldman's comment ... lol
Consumers have been wanting that for a very long time ... and it just doesn't seem like it will come together ...
We had a couple 'standards' with Armalite and DPMS pattern ... Then DPMS came out this past year and shot that all to hell with their G2 ... negating their first 'standard'
Oh well ... That's life, I guess.

If you are local, I usually have a couple on hand (at this time, I have only a Remington R-25... but am waiting on the return of an Aero Precision upper/lower that I will turn into a rifle once it is in my hands) and don't mind demoing them to members ...
I am a sponsor on the forum (Stamler Machine) and I try to keep some of the mainstream guns in my possession for demonstration purposes.
It is a ways off, but Faxon Firearms (one of our vendors) is supposed to be coming out with a .308 version of their ARAK-21... which has had some pretty successful press over the past year or so... and I plan on having one of theirs in my possession as soon as they are available...
PM me and we may be able to schedule a meeting so that you can get a chance to handle one before purchase...

Chris has not had any trouble with his DPMS AR10. He had run a lot of surplus ammo thru it and has not babied it. He did have some reloads not run right but they were starter loads and hasn't tried developing loads for it yet. He has the heavy stainless barrel I wouldn't think it would make any dif in what it likes.

thanks for the responses and 10-4 on the DPMS and Windham. That's about where I am right now. The only semi auto rifle I own is a Bushmaster 5.56 carbine which I have really abused and not taken any special care of. It has never missed a beat and been as accurate as I'll ever be.

I will say I don't abuse my rifles at all. They stay in very good condition and don't get shot much anyway.

Got to see Allans R-25 yesterday and it is a nice little rifle with some nice clear glass on top ( Nikon M-308 BDC)

Would be a good pickup for someone
