7.62x39 ammo: I need some, what brand(s) are gtg??

I'm looking to buy a couple of cases of 7.62x39 ammo. May buy online or may wait for the KCR Machine Gun Shoot next wknd. Of course would also buy from an individual.

Trying to do some research on the different brands that are available. Looks like the following:
- Wolf (in the 3-4 different variants)

- Tulammo

- Red Army Standard

- Golden Tiger

Of these 4 listed I really do not want Tulammo unless it is an absolutely dirt cheap price. I have some Wolf Polyformance and like it so would buy more. Have never tried the Red Army stuff. I've only shot a few rounds of Golden Tiger but that is the brand I'm really leaning towards.

As of now just using in an SKS but owning another AK is not out of the question.

Would like to get some opinions from the members here on your 7.62x39 brand preferences.

Thanks,
BK

AFAIK, they are pretty much all made in the same plant, by the same company, Tula.

The Golden Tiger might be from a different plant, in China or Korea, but I think it's still a Tula product.

If you want to so yourself a favor, get Boxer primed brass so you can have the option of reloading it, if you want to. Steel cased and some brass cased is Berdan primed, which is a real headache to try to reload.

Remember that soviet .30 caliber bullets are. 311" dia., where our .30 caliber is .308".

Crush, kill, mangle, maim, destroy.

I've never had much luck with Tula in any calibre. Wolf, though, has always been good. Brown/Silver Bear is good, too.

I have used red army with no issues. Except the fact I don't like my AK. Ammo isn't the problem there though.

Personally, i've never had any issues with Tula (at least out of an AK). It is dirty, at least....

Golden Tiger is pretty decent ammo -- it's lacquer coated and has sealed neck and primers. Not bad for storage.

The Red Army Standar ammo that is out there has been produced in several different countries, particularly Romania and Russia. The Romainian ammo also has sealed neck and primers, while the Russian ammo does not. i don't recall whether the cases are lacquer or polymer coated.....

Hope this helps.

Tula is hit and miss and leaves more crap behind when cleaning but for the most part all Commie ammo works well.

Never had any bad 7.62x39 ammo and only had bad ammo in calibers .223 and .22.

Trying to hold off buying any until the MGS but may not happen. SG Ammo has the Golden Tiger at 235/1000 with shipping at $18 per case (on 3 or more cases). I don't remember ever seeing bulk Golden Tiger at the MGS but really haven't looked for 7.62x39 until recently. A recent check of the vendors that I usually buy from at the MGS (Copes and Military Shooters) does not show any inventory of GT.

SG Ammo went from 15 cases of GT early this a.m. to 8 now. Credit card is within reach, decisions, decision!!!

Nutnfancy did a 7.62 review recently on various ammo and I think the golden tiger shot the worst if I recall. Look it up on YouTube just for your knowledge. Like he says, the test is that gun in that weather at that altitude but his groups should be info to take in.

Crazy. I'll YouTube it most people are crazy for GT. I'm thinking about buying some but I usually go cheapest steal case. AKs will eat it up in the limited times I've shot mine
