I own 3 marlin 60s, the buffer crack is common but will last for years till needs to be replaced. I machined one out of derlin and it will last indefinitely.
Oh, how so high they fly........ only further to fall.

Nylon as a material in various stages is absolutely tough. From a machinists I was told that it is used as gears in lots of machines and doesn't wear like other materials.

Thats not very dirty. I was the first to take my dad's model 60 apart 10 years ago. It's a pre '68 gun and had never been taken apart to be cleaned and was overdue by 30 years.

The inside of that poor thing looks it's only rescue will be from sandblasting!

That buffer has 20K more shots left in it, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

When I bought my squirrel stock one, the action was one big solid mass. Looks like someone just dumped oil/grease in and kept shooting. I was getting chunks of old oil/grease and fouling to chip out with a knife, then soaked it for 3 hours to get rest. No wonder it didn't work.

I don't know that that means. They said that if you used a nylon gear it would last longer than a metal version of the same size.

I also make drive wheels and idler wheels out of 5/5 nylon for automatic loin pullers.
