Mainly DD uses the Spartan Village mid rise holster.
This allows DD to run his regular first line of gear and still have enough space to draw his secondary without other gear getting in the way.
Before that a Safariland drop leg was used but because it sat lower on the thigh it caused a bit of movement with the holster when moving up and down range during drills.

If you run a thigh holster, it is better to run it high so that you can limit the amount of movement the holster has on your leg while still allowing you to get a good draw.

Dislikes are that it still sits too low.
Likes, due to it's dual leg strap design it moves less than the single hanging strap design.

is it worth the $45 shipped? I have the holster itself sitting here doing nothing and figured it might be worth a try.

Sure, worst case scenario you can always sell it for $45 if you don't like it.

I got the Blackhawk drop leg not too long ago. I like it so far. What I used before could not be adjusted up high enough, I did not find that I liked the Lara Croft feel of a low hanging rig. Also the holster I had was designed to fit multiple guns, so retention was a concern. With the dual straps on the Blackhawk I can adjust it up to ride just below my battle belt gear. I took off one of the thigh straps to accommodate this. Also I can put the proper retention holster on it to fit my gun. Gives me a warm fuzzy about not losing the dang thing.

Works well so far while running and crawling through the mud.

Any drop leg is going to make it more difficult when getting out of vehicles in a hurry I am told, which is why a lot of guys wear them on the chest rig. If I find myself in that mode I will adapt and overcome. For now the Blackhawk drop leg is working well.

Im using the safariland drop leg and it does have its downfalls. Its a good holster and sturdy and I love the retention, however you really should try and wear it as high as you can or it will work its way around to the front of your thigh like 325 was saying there. I have also been crawling around shooting prone with it and have had its retention come undone. I doubt that would be as likely with the blackhawk.
