Hello everyone, I am the Kentucky State Coordinator for Project Appleseed. If you like rifles, you would like and benefit from an Appleseed rifle marksmanship & heritage clinic. We can take you from being just a rifle owner to a true Rifleman. Everyone is welcome to attend these non-competitive, family-friendly events all over Kentucky.

UL is a great guy working hard to make Appleseed a valuable resource in the bluegrass. The best way to show your support is to come out and get involved, shoot, listen, help.

I've been wanting to do this with my oldest boy one weekend. I'm not sure the 8 year old is focused enough yet.

Thanks for the sticky Coachf!

Everyone- Can you shoot like a girl?
I thought you all would enjoy this video of one of our Indiana Appleseed instructors, Kate. She is a 14 year old Instructor-in-Training (IIT) and here she is shooting her US Rifle, Cal. .30, M1 (aka M1 Garand) at a 4" steel plate at 100 yards. She bought this rifle with her own savings at the Camp Perry CMP store last summer. NOTE: Both hits on the steel plate are dead center. The second hit blows the steel plate away, hence the whooping and hollering by the other instructors!

Enjoy-

How much is it for Firefighters, how many rounds, and about how long a few hours? Whole day?

Really hoping to make one of these events in the future. I unfortunately only have two rifles at my disposal (blasted handgun acquisition syndrome); an M&P 15-22 (AR-15 style .22LR) and a Mosin 91/30, would either of these be appropriate for the event? One moreso than the other?

The way I heard and understand you can use any .22 rifles, an AR, AK, SKS, M1

Shoot what ya have, it doesn't make sense to learn to shoot a gun you don't own...lol. On the same note your learning rifle fundamentals and they are pretty much the same no matter what rifle you use, so its best to learn on a 22lr due to cost of ammo then take what you have learned and use it at range with a hi power rifle.

@TroyBuilt- The cost for a Firefighter is $70.00 for both days if you pre-register. We start at 9:00 both days and run till around 5:00, sometimes later depending on the Shoot Boss. You'll need about 500 rounds total for both days. We also have an ROC program (Rifleman Opportunity Card) which allows you to shoot free all year, or until you make Rifleman. Here's basically how it works: pay for a weekend shoot ($70.00), buy an RWVA membership ($20.00) and shoot as many shoots as you want, anywhere in the country, at no extra cost. When you shoot a Rifleman score (210 points) or when the year ends, the offer expires. Be aware that some ranges have an extra range fee, (typically $5.00 per day) that goes to the host range, not to Appleseed.

@travisccook- if it were me, and I had to choose between those two rifles, I'd shoot the .22 all day Saturday and probably Sunday morning, then switch to the Mosin sometime Sunday afternoon. Some events have a KD (known distance, i.e. "long" range) component on Sunday afternoon, where we stretch out to 300+ yards (usually steel targets), depending on what the range has available.

We have a few more openings for our Project Appleseed rifle marksmanship clinic scheduled for this coming weekend (April 21/22) at Knob Creek. This is our Patriot's Day weekend shoot and we have a very special memorial activity that will take place simultaneously at every Appleseed clinic coast-to-coast on Saturday at 4:00 PM Eastern time.

The event information page can be found here:
http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=27534.0

We have a few other nice surprises in store for shooters, but I won't say any more. Primitive camping is available on the grounds for $10.00 per person per night. Appleseed is family-friendly and is NOT a competition. Come out for an enjoyable weekend of shooting instruction and learn the untold story of the first day of the Revolutionary War.

Note:
Independent of Appleseed, I will be leading a brief non-denominational Christian devotional service on Sunday morning for those that don't like to miss church on Sunday. This is strictly voluntary for those so inclined.

You don't have to shoot a rifleman's score, they will give you a certificate/voucher that you attended an approved CMP marksman program plus you have to be a member of a CMP affiliated club(like RWVA), then you can purchase an M1 at current CMP pricing.
