Hydrographics? Is that the shit where you put the sheet in the water then dip the item in it?

Yep It's a paper type deal that's dipped then clearcoated. Same way factory camo guns are done.

Post better pics close up. Does the barrel heat not effect it?

It's photoshopped LOL. I'm thinking about getting the actual gun done for Christmas, still debating.

The heat should not affect the finish. It's the same thing on factory camo guns.

From what I've heard heat doesn't really affect it. But I question it's durability. I seen a black rain ar at sharp mart with a skull pattern dip. N it was starting to peel/flake around the picatinny rail and around the ejection port opening

Home kits arent clear coated and some companies don't strip the surfaces first. Place I will have it done takes the gun down to bare metal, degreases it, dips it, Heat drys it, then adds clear coat to it.

Yeah. That may have been the case with the one I saw. I've always liked a lot of the prints I've seen. Let us know if/when u get it done. Looks damn good in the pic

I like the fact you didn't do EVERYTHING and only did enough to make it look good, but not overbearing.

Thanks. I thought doing the whole gun would be overbearing also.

I've used this before but not on guns. Like the OP said, surface preparation is the key, as is a clearcoated top layer.

Looks like everyone likes it. I'm working on the pricing from a couple places right now. Not caring for the response I got from the place I had planned on sending it. Told them what I wanted to do -Stock, receiver, barrel and attached the pic. They sent me back pricing for the stock and barrel but not the receiver.

Then they don't have FFL

May want to try AH , he did it at one time.

I looked at it myself.

A "kit" was 100.00 for 3 meters and stuff.

What? They have pricing for AR-15 and standard Shotgun receivers. Who is AH?
