Any Apple/Mac techies?

My 2009 MacBook will not load after the login...status bar will eventually go all the way but freezes there.
I’ve trie multiple restarts, safe start, control//option/p/r starts.
So I can power up, Apple logo goes to login screen, I login, it acts like its going to start, then never does.

Do you have a time capsule for it? If so try rolling it back. I have seen os updates cause that.

Start your Mac and hold Command + R to go into recovery mode, from which you can start Disk Utilities, restore from a Time Machine backup, or perform a clean install. This recovery system is stored on a hidden partition on your Mac’s hard drive.

If you do a clean install, all of your stuff is gone.

Correct do not do that. Verify you have a back up before you do a clean install.

Update....
I was able to get to the Utility screen using Command+R.
First Aid on hard disk and startup disk and both said everything was ok.
I was able to reload iOS, it went through installation then initialization....login--------nothing.
Same problem- status bar will go all the way, but never go past that.
Not sure what to do next. Googling and Apple help has no solution other than replacing the hard disk drive.
