Such a shame. I had a lot of great times there over the years. Pretty bittersweet to see it go even though I haven't been in several years.

Jim Porters was bought out by MSD to make way for one of their projects.

MSD to purchase Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium property

oops never mind, just read the link :)

hmmm, well I never knew that building was where MSD was trying to build the basin. They moved fast. I was in a meeting about this a few months ago and they just got approval for the adjacent property about a month or so ago. EPA requirements forcing them to build the basin if I remember right. And its a BIG basin.

Not a sewer plant, a collection basin for large amounts of water.

That's a shame. Once upon a time it was a really great place for parties and live music. I saw many bands there, early on, that went on to become HUGE!

Crush, kill, mangle, maim, destroy.

Pretty shitty for the employees though. Finding out by a note on the door. Or more likely on the news or on Facebook.

So like a huge drain/bowl?

It will have sewage in it as well. basically it will be an overflow for the combined sewers instead of going into beargrass creek. Then it will slowly pump back into the sewers when the rainfall event is over and there is less load on the system.

A sewer plant has lots of components which cause the smell and problems associated with being nearby. Collection, aeration, ponds, etc, are generally where the smells would be coming from. This is to keep the city from dumping stuff right into the creek. All contained and so there SHOULD be no foul odors if what we discussed is constructed right. It should also be pretty hidden. I am not sure if the new apartments next door will like it all though.

The discussion was leaving the original building (Jim Porters) I guess it is now and using that as a part of the operation. Who knows what they will do. They did not disclose to those meeting participants that they had worked a deal with Porter already but that may have come after the meeting.

No, sounds like they were in negotiations, which are not always made public since its really only between the landowner and the MSD (why does everyone always presume there is a conspiracy theory?). The MSD specifically wanted access to a large vacant tract of land next to Porters (and between it and the new apartments area) which was owned by the Transportation Cabinet and were asking if they could purchase it or use it for this type of operation. The land fit well in connecting some appropriate adjacent sewer lines as well. Plans were to improve a walking trail down by the creek area for use by the public as well.
