Anyone have a strut spring compressor tool?
Does anyone here have a strut spring compressor tool? Not the little rental tool type. The stand up type or wall mounted kind. I'm trying to finish installing my aftermarket lowering springs but the rental tool and good years tool doesn't fit. The coils are too close together near the top portion.
A cop stopped me on the street and said "we're looking for a mugger who fits your description" , so I said "okay I'll do it".

Lol
If you’re feeling brave, rent one at the parts store.
If you want to see your kids grow up, swing by a private shop and ask them to swap out the struts for you. Take a few sausage biscuits, and that’s probably all it will cost you

Never mind guys. I got it taken care of. I went to work on my day off and fabricated the tools I needed. The entire job sucked but it's done. My car is back on the road and 1.5 inches lower than previously. Woot woot!

Re: Anyone have a strut spring compressor tool?
So essentially it's the same concept as the rental tool. Just more capable of inserting and removing due to 6mm thick steel flanges instead of 8 or 9 mm on the rental.

Re: Anyone have a strut spring compressor tool?
In the compressed picture here note that the upper right flange in the picture is bent from the stress. I'm fully aware and I recognize that this is a dangerous job that nobody should attempt at home. I designed the flanges to that the hooks could not pull out under load and even bent this far, the hook still had a good bite over the coil. You can evidence this further from the photo of the flange stuck in the spring. Upon completion, I had to disassemble my tool that I made and hammer the flanges out (unscrewing them basically)

She's squatting nice and low. I finally got rid of that unsightly wheel gap. No rough ride. Handles corners well, with minimal body roll.

HAD...lolMarcus wrote:I thought you had a volvo...lol
Front passenger axle (parts only) $800
Headlight bulbs $45 each
Struts $499 each
Battery $239
I sold it a month or two ago finally.
The new ride is an Infiniti G37xs (AWD sport). 328hp, paddle shifters etc. It's a fun car to drive. I have more plans for it. I'm convinced no stock car could ever please me

That's because currently we only have day and night time photos to compare. I need to take another daytime shot at work in the same parking spot. ,Dave1965 wrote:man thats lots of money and aggravation and I really don't see much of a difference
Edited to add: I'm only $235 in for lowering.

That first picture is sweet. The shadow messes up the second and makes it look original height

Re: Anyone have a strut spring compressor tool?
Wait, which picture? The only one where the car is lowered is the night time rainy shot. The garage shot is all factory everything. The daytime shot where the car is near a fire hydrant is wheels and tint only.PDM wrote:That first picture is sweet. The shadow messes up the second and makes it look original height

Ok. That’s what it looks like. Your post made it sound like that last picture was lowered

That's not bad. I'm looking at $1200 just to level the front of the Silverado.ProCroation wrote:That's because currently we only have day and night time photos to compare. I leveled the front of my 18 f150 with a kit for $120. I did it myself. The Silverado leveling kit is only $50.rustynuts wrote:That's not bad. Re: Anyone have a strut spring compressor tool?
I've looked at the leveling kits, and they are all pretty much the same thing whether you pay $120 for a name brand or twenty bucks for an eBay Chinese special. I could easily go that route, but don't like the spacers.
I looked at the Bilstein 5100s and almost went with those but a friend of mine went with some Fox coilovers in the front and I have to say, hers rides and handles better than stock. Another guy I know has CST coilovers and upper control arms and same thing, just all around better than stock.
Now to wait for the salt to disappear off the road.
