Time to have the car serviced

Post by Hartlage » Fri Apr 06, 2012 3:14 pm

Need to have the 120k service done on my Accord. Belt, valve adjustment, trans flush, coolant flush, etc. Also, I think a relay is going out in the ignition or something. Battery/alternator is fine, but every once in a while, I have to turn the ignition a few times before it will try to start.

Point me in the right direction KAC'ers.

- if you have a set of simple hand tools- you can do everything you mentioned yourself- I did all of those on my '97 CR-V, plus replaced the timing belts and water pump myself. Adjusting the valves sounds complicated, but it's very simple to do, just time consuming. Belts are very easy to change; tranny drain is right up front, easy to get to...

Time to have the car serviced

I did all the maintenance on my last car, but I'm not as familiar with the K-series engines Honda is using now. I'd rather pay to have the car fully serviced at 120k and then learn as I need to from there.

I have an 05 honda accord. For what its worth on that "having to try a couple times to get it started" issue, I had that as well. Went on for 20-30k miles and then the car wouldn't start. On my model they have internal starters so you have to get into the engine to get to it. Just a warning in case yours is the same basic model.

Were are you located hartlage?

And the internal starter? Never heard of it. I've heard of starters having the relay built into the solenoid on it. But never a Honda with a starter internal to the engine.

On a rsx they are under the intake manifold which is a bastard to get out unless you remove the intake.

Yep under the intake manifold which to me is inside the engine...not in a traditional spot under the car as I am used to. Wasn't cheap either and I had an independent do it for half the dealer price which was I think around 500-600.

Louisville. Do you work at a local shop Ian?

I imagine it's in the same location as the RSX if that's the issue, same series engine.

I work at the assured auto care in Jtown. Not sure how busy we will be next week as we have one tech and a manager on vacation for the next 10 days. And a rack and pinion we did today turned out to be bad, went to test drive it after I got done with the alignment and I have no power steering to the right. The rack is bad, labor claim monday and start over... yay?
