Today is anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, June 1944

Troops crouch inside a LCVP landing craft, just before landing on "Omaha" Beach on "D-Day", 6 June 1944.

I cannot imagine being in that landing craft, or crawling out of the water and across the shingle beach, of looking up those cliffs to St. Laurent or Point du Hoc, and going on.

We owe so much to those who did.

Considering that they are about to undertake one of the most harrowing assaults in history, these young men look incredibly confident. No doubt, in the depth of their souls, there was incredible fear. Truly the Greatest Generation.
