Why I Made the Switch
I’ve been shooting for the better part of 30 years now, but up until I went into the academy in 1995, I had never shot a Sig Sauer firearm. In fact, I cannot say if I was even familiar with the name. I had shot many different handguns up until then, (including a Gen1 Glock 17 which I hated), but my favorite handgun at the time was my Colt Series 80 Combat Commander that I received as a college graduation gift. I loved that Colt.
While attending the academy, all of our firearms training was done with the Sig P225 (a compact, single stack 9mm they no longer make). I was quite impressed by that little gun, even though at the time, I was not a fan of the 9mm cartridge. During the six months I was in the academy, my gun never suffered a single malfunction. During training, they would have us do things to try and induce a malfunction, like load an empty, spent shell casing into the magazine with live rounds. The idea was to try and induce a stovepipe or a failure to feed, but all that happened was we experienced failures to fire, because the dang guns chambered every single empty case. That impressed me quite a bit, especially when compared to my somewhat finicky Colt.

Interesting article. It does reflect some of my own thinking regarding SIG handguns. One reason I really love my SP2022 is that it is the only combat-worthy SIG that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Though he mentions seeing no difference in his own experience, as a long-time Glock shooter I definitely notice the difference in bore axis relative to the grip and it does have an effect on natural accuracy, IMO.

I agree with all of his article. The big thing for me on Glocks is magazine interchangeability.

As much as I knock Glocks, the mag interchangeability is awesome...

P226 mags fit the P229
While I wouldn't call the p229 compact, it definitely isn't a fullsize.
Personally I have grown to love da/sa trigger pull and I prefer metal framed guns. That bore axis advantage of the Glock probably isn't realized due to the heavier weight of the Sig. Imo the p226 with light andwith e2 grips and srt trigger setup he has there is unbeatable.
That said, I wouldn't feel out gunned if I had to carry a glock. Glocks do have their fair share of problems though. Sight issues ranging from front sights popping off to wrong sight heights installed by the factory. Some mags don't drop free when empty. The .40's beat the fames up. Reports of frame flex causing jams if shot with a light attached.

I have shot several sigs, xd's xdm's and various other pistold but my G19 is my go to. soon I will have another g26 and the mags being interchangeable is huge especially with Carbines wink wink

A glock is everything you need and nothing you dont.
Mags not dropping free, dude thats like 1980s era mags and they were manufactured to be that way. It was not until the gun reached the US market that people said.....Hey we need a mag that drops free, and it was so.
The 40 round sucks, I got a few of them that have been retired to hide away guns. The whole round itself goes against the whole everything you need and nothing you dont.
The sights do suck, cheap old plastic crap, but thats the only one ill give ya and even then the first thing most people do is put on the sights they like.

Yeah I don't like the .40 either. Just sayin'. Not glock hating either. Just not my taste.

40 goes bang every time and I don't see pistols exploding from the huge detonation that the massive nuclear explosion 40 emits lol. It isn't my favorite either but it gets a terrible rap. Police use it and it apparently works for them after several years. All I'm saying is that the 9/45 isn't a Cadillac and the 40 isn't a Pinto.

People who go the .40 route are indecisive. They want 9mm's capacity and .45 size in a gun that fits their womanly dishpan hands.

I agree... What is the 10mm similar to? I know it's same or near .40 round but does it have more juice behind it? Is it a longer cartridge?

9mm capacity and .45 power in a slimmer grip frame.
I fired a magizine full of full house 10 mm out of a Bren 10
It does have some recoil to it.

Yeah sounds like it but the best of both worlds hasn't been my somewhat limited experience. .40 seems to recoil more than a 45 and still has less boolets than a 9mm. If I thought the 9mm holes were too small to poke in people I would step up to the 11.4mm size holes of a .45 and just carry a double stack and not a single stack.

The 40 is a suitable round, my dislike of it has nothing to do with its effect in tissue. When it comes down to it there is not enough gain in power to make it worth the extra cost, the lesser capacity, the increased recoil, its just not worth it for little to no penetration gain, and .10 increase in size after expanding.

Me too! I just got 200 more rds today for it. 165gr 1400fps 718lbs. Very flat shooting rd. Glock 20SF.

Everywhere I've been has had 10mm ammo during the whole ammo shortage going on too. That is awesome!

Yeah just pricey for a whole day at the range but that's not what it's for. Kind of like how people buy S&W 500's and Dessert Eagles. It's just fun to shoot a powerful rd but it has its price.
