Should I load .223 or .300 BLK instead?

Post by AErrorist » Wed Sep 05, 2012 6:27 pm

So I've been getting ready to start reloading for my AR, and I have all the components necessary for a whole bunch of .223 / 5.56, but then I got a wild hair up my ass.

What if I reloaded for .300 BLK instead? Here's what I've got.

6100 small rifle primers
10lbs of powder for .223 loads
1200 .223 bullets
~800 lake city brass

What would be the value of the brass and bullets if I just wanted to sell or trade it for .300BLK brass and .30 cal projectiles. Would I lose my ass on it? I figure if I'm gonna start reloading why not make it worth it right?

I don't think you'd lose your ass per se. Enough people load them around here as long as you paid a fair price.

When when I said "lose my ass" I guess I wanna know how close to 1-1 I can get. Obviously not exactly, but I'd like to be able to load at least 7-800 rds.

You will need a different powder too. I've got a shit load of pulled M80 bullets I bought several years ago for nearly nothing. .223 bullets are ususally cheaper than .30s are. The brass just form it yourself it is easy and takes up a rainy day if you have the time.

Ive been loading 300BO for less than 11 cents a round, I cannot load .223 for that but I got a good deal on bullets.
