Looking to get into reloading.

Post by 86 slo-vo » Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:58 am

Been pushing it off for a while but I'm getting tired of running out of ammo.

Want to start with 9mm for now and .223 later on, looking to try to stay under $500 with some decent equipment to get going.

So in other words, $500... What would you buy and from where.

Thanks!

A Lee Pro 1000 would be a nice place to start for handgun rounds for now a lot of money. If you can spend some more money Dillon is the way to go

I'm giving myself a $500 budget on just equipment. But with the $500 I want to be ready to roll once I get the rest figured out.

I can buy wolf or brown bear or some other cheap ass ammo near as cheap as I can reload decent ammo for, so I only reload for quality and I really do save a bunch over buying quality.

If you are loading bulk blasting ammo, look at the Hornady Lock-N-Load progressive. Dies average about $30 a set for RCBS and the press is under your budget. For bulk stuff, the progressives are hard to beat.

I'll mostly be loading plinking ammo but would like to taylor the olds to what the guns like.

I've got 3-4k pieces of 9mm brass built up already.

I'd be happy to do a tutorial here for anyone interested. Reloading is not as complicated as one may think. The number one thing to remember is attention to detail.

All mine are done on a Dillion 550 nice loader for sure. The tool plate on top makes it very easy to switch everything to a different caliber.
