the in-laws need tires on their Ford Escape, a 2009 or 2010 I think...they are 235/70/16 size.

Who has the best prices for installed with a road hazard warranty?

We have Tire Discounters, Michel Tires, Wal Mart, Sams Club, Big O, Sears... (I refuse to go back to Ken Towery's after getting screwed by them on a defective tire)

I haven't shopped for tires in a while.

Also Bill Collins has got my last 3 tire purchases. They matched or beat local prices on name brand tires.

Discount Tire at Hurstbourne & Taylorsville Rd should be at least checked for prices. I have done business with them for many years when I lived in Texas. I think they also have a location on Westport Rd, near I-265, and probably others since they opened those two locations last year.

Tirerack.com is where I do most of my tire shopping since then.

Goodyear in Fern Creek next to the Kroger really took care of me on my tires. Saved me about 300 compared to online and everywhere else.

So far a couple guys I work with and my father in law all have gone to them and gotten better deals than they could fine other places.

Plus, the installer is a gun guy. The manager's name is Mike.

We did Sears with a Michelin rebate, and got the road hazard and lifetime balancing/rotating.

I have a contact ... lives on the South side just off Snyder on National Turnpike.
I just had him put Goodyear tires on my wife's trailblazer ... $500.00 mounted and balanced and he got rid of the old ones...
Has wholesale agreements with some local warehouses here in Louisville...
No road hazard... only factory warranty, but I know that Big O and some of the other tire places will road hazard warranty anyone's tires for around $100.00
He is also pro gun and an all around good guy ... I need to talk to him about joining KAC...
PM me if you're interested...

tires don't have the margin in them you would think. Name brand. Tires like Michelin are almost not worth selling given the margins. Alignments and service is where they make money. Take an alignment that they charge $80+ for. $20 to the tech leaves a lot of money for profit and upkeep of the rack.

Some stores have large margins. If they didn't, why do some stores sell tire X for $A when another sells it for $B? I've seen large discrepancies in the local market in Elizabethtown. I put new tires on my truck and I got them from Michaels Tires. They had the best deal on the tire I needed around. They were about 8% less than anyone else with the same tire.

Loss leaders.... They are selling tires at little profit (less than 10%) in some cases. The $$$ is made on the no name import tires often double or more what they pay. Keep in mind overhead such as rent and insurance is hefty in the auto business. Keep in mind service is a much higher margin than tires ever will be even for the chains like Tires Plus.
