Favorite fire starting method
So what's your fav? Matches, lighter, fire steel, hand drill, road flare?
I enjoy doing it the 'natural' way (bow drill/hand drill) but I don't enjoy sweating. Or waiting 20 minutes for heat haha. Met personal favorite is shaving some fuzz off of fatwood and then using my firesteel. Its speedy and weatherproof.

You better call Kenny Loggins. Cause you're in the danger zone.

Favorite fire starting method
Gas stove?
Matches or lighter. Never tried to start a fire without them...a skill I should probably work on

1. build a staggered log pile of wood, with paper/rags at center of base
2. douse liberally with gasoline
3. stand back, throw flaming rag/object onto staggered pile
4. enjoy
5. make smores

Re: Favorite fire starting method
Gas, and lots of it. Just be careful to not leave a trail. Oil works good to. for a big bonfire, I lay the lots in a pyramid style setup, oil them down with a couple quarts of the cheapest available, let soak, then gas it all, throw flaming gas soaked rag on end of stick on the thing, and watch it BURN!!!

For sure. BE CAREFUL! Gas and fire are deadly if you are not very very careful. I been burning fires for years, and have singed my eyebrows before.....

Re: Favorite fire starting method
Haha, I suppose I should have underscored the favorite bushcraft / camping method, like with something you have in your pocket or pack.
Btw, how does one get that snazzy pistol under their name?

I like flint and steel, makes me feel like a mountian man and enjoy makeing the steels
Re: Favorite fire starting method
I like to incorporate a lincoln/linkin log style square base, fill it with newspaper, carboard, oily rags, kerosene soaked brick, ect...
then built a tee pee/pyramid over that, soak with motor oil, one or two quarts,
apply gas, less is more really, but I go all out cause I like the "poof" sound heavy gas makes....
stand way way back, use a roman candle to launch fireball into the base, walla. badarse fire.

That only happened twice Rob....
Sorry OP, did not notice this was in bushcraft forum. My apologies. My techniques work, but are more of a "party fire" recipe.

Got a good buddy who is a lineman, he regularly give me truckloads of 6 foot telephone poles...they are soaked with a preservative that burns like crazy!
I wouldn't suggest eating off this kind of fire for at least an hour or two. although I have.

I've eaten off a pole fire once or twice, long after it had been lit. Stupid, I know. but hey, it tasted good.

either a lighter or spark maker and cotton balls soaked in Vaseline. Works great, even wet. Burns plenty long enough get your tinder going well.
I always have some in an old 35mm film case in the backpack somewhere.
