Not sure on the legality (pretty sure it would require some type of paperwork) but this has always looked cool as hell to me.

Get a Form 1 approved by the ATF (and pay the $200 for the tax stamp) and it would be legal.

Otherwise...no.

Even in a pistol length and with no stock except the grip ,it is still a rifle-Short Barreled Rifle.

I know I know ,that is just a legality/technical answer.

I believe what cranky is referring to is that you can make a pistol a rifle, but you cannot make a rifle a pistol. You can tax stamp it and make it an SBR, but you can't make it a pistol.

I think you can make one out of a virgin receiver. But that like finding a virgin after prom night.

A receiver is a "other firearm " it has never been a rifle , pistol or shotgun.

That receiver can be a bolt operation or gas or any type of action function.

As others have said, no, but why would you even want to? Other than the noise, flash, and lack of control of the darn thing when it goes off, not to mention crappy ballistics, what are you gaining? The giggle factor wears thin real fast.

If you want a short barrel, flame throwing Mosin, get an M44

Now if you want something to irritate people at the range there are PSLs floating around with 16" barrels with a muzzle break. They should provide you with enough side blast and noise to clear out 4 or 5 benches to each side of you of people.

As stated above, get an M44 or a M38 if you want a Mosin with a big boom.

Note: M38 and M44 are pretty much the same thing except on the M44 the bayonet folds back onto the stock. M38 bayonet detaches the same as on the longer Mosins. The M44s at 111 were going for $2 hundred something

M38s are not equipped to use a bayonet. That is why the Russians made the M44.

Or you can find a 91/59 and use a bayonet.

I have an 1891, M38, 2 M44s, a 91/59, and 5 91/30s. The 91/59 is my favorite.

That's for M44s, 91/30s are less than half that.

I was thinking under $100. Those days are probably gone though.
