A police spokeswoman, Sylvie Toffin, confirmed the incident was deliberate to the Associated Press, saying "It's an attack."
A witness, Wassim Bouhlel, told the Associated Press that he saw the truck drive into the crowd, then witnessed the driver emerge with a gun and start shooting.

There are now unconfirmed reports that at least 73 people have died.

Christian Estrosi, a leading regional politician in the area, said on Twitter it was "the worst drama in the history of Nice with more than 70 victims already".

News TV channel iTELE put the death toll at 73 shortly, citing a police source.

Truck was 'loaded with guns and grenades'

Christian Estrosi, president of the region, has been quoted as saying the truck used in Nice was found loaded with guns and grenades.

Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet told BFM TV: "It's going to be a very high toll."

He said no hostages had been taken and the driver of the lorry had been "neutralised", adding that authorities were investigating if he acted alone.

No one will take it seriously. Because it isn't a serious proposal. And that's my point.

This is serious business, and we're treating it like it's a game. We chortle about those stupid "libtards" who call magazines "clips"...who don't know what assault rifles and barrel shrouds are.

We need to spend much less time getting into childish spats with those who are as firm in their opinions as we are in ours and spend more time thinking about the *majority* of Americans who can be swayed to one side or the other.
