They live in Mayfield (rural Ky) no suprise he had guns and ammo and plate carrier etc. So of course the cops make it look like they just caught El Chappo cause some dude and his wife grew personal plants to get stoned...

IMO this is a complete waste of tax dollars and was literally a victim-less "crime".

It's Mayfield, what else are the cops going to do?

Nothing compared to this in Nelson Co. But the couple had more cool stuff to put in the picture i guess.

Love how, in the second article, the arrests took place in Nelson County but they included a phone number, should you have any information, for the Hardin County drug task force.

They can't legalize it because then the citizens would make the money off it.

Right now the "war on drugs" cashes about $750K a month for the Louisville area alone for law enforcement!

mike, is that from federal assistance or is that from seized assets or both. Can you clarify for those of us interested in this topic?

I like how 2 of seven plants were discarded in garbage can. That alone is interesting because 5 plants on a first offense is a misdemeanor in KY. 6 or more is a felony, hmm, I would like to hear both sides of that story.
Where is the victim in this crime? Who was harmed?

We are making our cash crop tobacco almost illegal to buy, use, and possess it seems.

Obviously there must still be farmers out there growing tobacco (people still smoke it), but out of all of the tobacco farmers I used to know, not a single one still grows tobacco. The big farm I hunt on used to make most of its money on tobacco, but had to switch to cattle with a plot of corn large enough to feed them through the winter.

Agreed. Even 12+ years ago when i worked on many farms in oldham county. The farmers were slowly phasing out tobacco and going to cattle and corn, soy beans, etc.

That was back when many of the newly imposed taxes on tobacco were coming around. Now the e-cig phase seems to be weeding out most of the rest. I agree some will still remain because people do still smoke. But just my own observation is that i see less and less people smoking and more and more turning to e-cigs and vaporizers. When i see people (mainly kids) using them in public spaces it makes me want to throat punch them, but thats a different story about respect and courtesy.

Wife told me that back when she was working at Macy's a few year ago she had a young kid wanting to buy a piece of jewelry for his gf. He had one of the vaporizers and was puffing away on it. Kept blowing it in her face and shit. I would have knocked that thing out of his hand and stomped on it and told him to learn some manners if i had been around.

I still see a lot of people smoking. Just can't do it in front of you hardly anymore. Most medical facilities have their staff out standing on a street or sidewalk like hookers trying to get a smoke break in because they can't smoke on the facility property.

I presume our needs are imported if we are not producing it domestically.

Production in thousands of tons
China 2,298.8
India 595.4
Brazil 520.7
United States 408.2
European Union 314.5
Zimbabwe 204.9
Turkey 193.9
Indonesia 166.6
Russia 116.8
Malawi 108.0

Kentucky burley is used mainly in cigars. As you can see from the data posted there is still plenty of nicotine being imported.
Most people I know (including myself) got out of tobacco because of the horrible prices Phillip Morris was paying. They can import cheaper.

Just about everything can be imported cheaper these days even after transportation and duties. Our option as a nation is to be competitive at producing goods and stop letting regulatory agencies make it cost prohibited to do business and our govt tax us out of business. Or the alternative is to keep getting everything from overseas and funding other countries so our computers and dog toys are cheaper and we make the people trying to kill us richer and stronger.
