When you people quit feeding these strays, they will go away. But until then, they will always be a thorn in your side. I get sick and tired of running them off the side of the expressway ramp only to be replaced by two more. They average $25 cash an hour out in Fern Creek and come from all over the city(and beyond) because people always hand them cash. It's worth the gamble to them to get out there on nice days.

If you continue to put food out for raccoons, raccoons will continue to be a problem in your area.

I've lived all over the country and you see them everywhere. They're especially bad out west. I talked to one guy who traveled about 100 miles a day hitting all the convenience stores and truck stops asking for gas money to get home to his family. This was back in the early '90s and he claimed to make several hundred per day back then.

Mike is absolutely right. Dont hand people money. If you want to feel charitable offer to buy someone lunch or give to an actual charity (although most seem to be a black hole as only a fraction of your dollar makes it to helping people). People want to complain about the beggers when in reality its the people giving who are the problem. If someone told you that you could make $20 an hour tax free standing on the corner asking for money would you?

Exactly.
These people have learned that they can live without responsibility. Lots of places they can go if they are really bad off.

I think this dude is low....and a real POS....

But, did he really do anything illegal?

He begs for money and people give it to him....

I still think this is better than scamming Disability and/or SSI etc...

And maybe he's doing both? Honestly, I didn't open link and read full story.

I *always* tip street musicians.

But I never give money to a beggar.

Gave a guy money for gas asking everyone at a gas station last year. Followed him out of lack of certainty that I really helped out. He put $2 in his tank but pretended to pump more than that. 3 fuel stations later he went to a known crack house. Did the deal in plain sight. Called it in and he got pulled over in possession of...something, I assume crack.

This past winter...same gas station. Grungy looking guy. Said to be cold, hungry and homeless. Offered him a job and a hotel room for the night. Said yes to the job but no to the hotel. Got his mothers phone number to reach him for the job. Followed him secretly as he walked around the corner to his house and used his key to get in. Ran the phone number...its in his name. Went to his door with an application the next day. Knocked and when he saw my face he about shit himself and slammed the door in my face. Smh.

Guys, this beggar now has a felony warrant out of barren county. If you spot him call the police. He will be fun to lock up!

I dont give anyone anything unless I know them.. I was standing outside best buy one day smoking this woman walks out with her family and asked me for a smoke. I gave her a camel she lit it took a couple of hits when her guy pulled to load their purchase she threw down my cigarette got one out of her pack in the truck and lit it.

I know this is a very small thing, but the audacity to take something from someone else when it clearly was not needed is exactly the same thing as all the other stories in here.. From that point forth I live with the harsh rule of eff them.

When I'm asked to give money, I ask if they are a Veteran. If they answer yes, I tell them I will buy them dinner and take them to a shelter that specializes in homeless Veterans (Interlink Counseling Services) on Preston. Only one said ok. The others only wanted money. I don't like seeing my brothers and sisters in arms living like that, but I bet most I talked to never served. However, Veterans do make up the larger population of homeless.
