Christopher Claxton, Ky. State Reformatory inmate said to have escaped La Grange hospital on April 4

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A search for an escaped Kentucky State Reformatory inmate is underway near the Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

Police say inmate Christopher Claxton, 32, struggled with a female corrections officer at the hospital and escaped with that officer's .38 caliber pistol. The altercation occurred in the radiology department of the hospital, state reformatory Sgt. Scott Wolf said.

Officers believe Claxton ran from the hospital into a wooded area, which is near the La Grange exit from Interstate 71.

Claxton is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, burglary, theft and possession of a firearm by a felon from Russell, Adair and Pulaski Counties, according to the state corrections department website.

Officers at the scene say Claxton escaped in only his socks and underwear. They describe him as dangerous. New potential charges include kidnapping, assault and escape. Police from several nearby jurisdictions were headed to the hospital vicinity for the search.

Police at the scene urge those in the area to lock doors, "be vigilant," and call police if they see anything suspicious.

If you run you get shot. Simple as that.

An escapee, armed, with a long history of violence. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

What a dumbass corrections officer. If my gun is taken its because I'm dead or beat near death.
