The 1,000% tax would apply to military-style "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazines capable of carrying 10 rounds or more, adding thousands of dollars to the final sales price of such guns in a bid to severely restrict their access. The cost of those weapons typically range between $500 and $2,000, depending on location and other variables. That means the plan would add $5,000 and $20,000 to the final price tag.

It's intended to pass through budget reconciliation, a legislative maneuver allowing Democrats to sidestep GOP resistance and approve legislation with a simple majority vote. Democrats employed the tactic to pass President Joe Biden's stimulus law as well as the House-approved Build Back Better bill that later died in the 50-50 Senate.

Only measures that are deemed to have a large impact on the federal budget can be put into such a bill. Three budget experts told Insider that the bill would likely qualify to be included in a reconciliation package that Democrats hope to revive by summer's end, as it is structured as a tax.

Also H.R. 2814 under the title Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act which will repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. This will allow people to sue firearms manufacturers for the misuse of their products. In essence this will allow firearms manufacturers to be sued out of existence.

The federal government is proposing $1,337 in compensation for turning in an AR-15 rifle under a mandatory buyback program.

Public Safety Canada has released a price list detailing how much money owners of banned firearms can expect to get under the program.

At the higher end of the scale, forfeiting a Swiss Arms SG550 could net an owner $6,209.

Ottawa will seek input from gun owners, businesses and industry on the proposed compensation amounts from now until Aug. 28.

The mandatory buyback program would cover the more than 1,500 models and variants of what the government considers assault-style firearms, banned two years ago.

Remember it wasn't suppose to pass the house but here we are.
They voted on and enacted a house voting rule change in the morning so that they could vote on 1808 in the afternoon. They're not above changing rules on the fly to get what they want. The dems could nuke the filibuster.

Not saying they going to do this just be aware they could. Many think the dems are going to lose big in Nov so that prediction could drive the dems to go for broke to get what they want while they still have a chance.
