I encourage you to submit comments on the BATFE's proposal by e-mailing: APAcomments@atf.gov. The comment period will be open until March 16, 2015 and should have a substantial impact on BATFE's final decision.

United States Senator

ATF announced today that it will not move forward with its proposed framework to ban commonplace 5.56 M855 "green tip" ammunition at this time while it reviews the record number (more than 80,000) comments it has received so far. ATF will continue to accept comments through March 16. NSSF, as the trade association for the firearms industry, looks forward to engaging in a dialogue with ATF to address this issue that led to the now withdrawn proposal. Our industry members hope to meet consumer demand in bringing alternative ammunition products to the market and to continue to sell the popular M855 rifle target ammunition. NSSF continues to strongly urge ATF to grant 32 long-pending petitions to exempt alternative rifle ammunition designed and intended for the hunting market.

They have to address each of the 80,000 comments. Which means that someone or someones (plural) have to read and summarize each comment and then make sure all of them are addressed. Talking thousands of man hours that the ATF doesn't have. They are cutting their losses on this one.

Hmmm
The wording make me think they didn't throw in the towel but called a timeout instead.

Yup....they basically said they are going to wait and review all comments which is what they are supposed to do anyway

This is basically a ploy to make people celebrate a non-victory and forget this ever happened so they will stop getting more comments and can continue with business as usual.

I hope prices fall and I can stock up some.

End result, it will come back around and cause panic....again

Don't sit back and put your feet up. If you contacted anyone of importance and they acted, contact them again to say thank you and to tell them to keep going.
Not even close to a victory, in my opinion. Remember, Obama wants to ban lead ammuntion altogether for "environmental" reasons. Back in 2011, the ATF classified Barnes copper bullets as armor piercing. Barnes filed an exemption and was approved. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see those exemptions cancelled now. As was said, this wasn't about AP ammo. It, and the lead ammo ban were small steps to a complete ammo ban. Banning every material that makes bullets effective and forcing the industry to scramble for alternatives will cause a price increase of huge proportions, and a complete dry-up of all available ammunition. These guys are damn good chess players. We stopped one move. They're already 5 moves ahead.

Prices for this ammo on GB is still outrageous but there isn't much bidding going on. Now we'll see if prices drop

This doesn't surprise me one bit. They aren't gonna let it go. They want it off the shelves.
