Century Faces $5 Million Class-Action Lawsuit (AK safety)

Post by WLJ » Mon Feb 08, 2016 9:46 am

Century Arms, Inc. is now subject to a class-action lawsuit filed on January 19th over defective AK-47 safety / selectors. In short, the lawsuit claims that the safety / selector used on most Century Arms AK’s after 1995 are capable of moving past safe and when moved such, able to discharge a round unintentionally

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

shouldn't all safeties be able to 'move past safe' ? ...or they would be called 'stoppies'

Check the pictures at the link.
Basically the safety lever when push upwards from fire to safe can be pushed pass the safe position (and thus pass the dust cover) and it fires the weapon.
I've seen AKs where this can happen but I didn't think anything of it at the time thinking it's just an AK being an AK. Although my impression was that you somewhat had to force it pass the dust cover to do so.

Note as shown in this video https://youtu.be/14ETsyHoRwI it's the safety itself that fires the weapon by pushing on the disconnect (go to the 4:55 mark) when it's pushed pass the safe position, no trigger pull required.

Why can't you just send your gun in for repair or refund? Why is everything a lawsuit? I hate people.

Just pulled my two AKs out of the safe, one is a century build, the other a Saiga conversion. Both will do what is described above, the century build requires some force, the saiga will do it with very little force. BUT, and this the key, the dust cover must be off on both for it to occur.
The is no way with the dust covers install on mine to set off the firearm pulling up on the safety. So this lawyer can go pound sand IMHO.

Edit: Just checked my Vepr 54. Same thing.

I'm a true AK fan, the General used all his skills and knowledge and whatever else was out there, to give his countrymen a fighting chance after WW2, Rumor with some evidence, mass production was helped with captured Germans, stamped rifles were first successfully mass produced by them. The end result was a weapon the simplest peasant could deploy it with little training. People bending the safety can cause this to happen and I wonder about after market dust covers could be ill designed to stop this.
