If you could pick your perfect or favorite optic set up on an AR (carbine length 5.56), what would it be? Any combo or back up irons, magnified or not etc........what do you like and why?

All the kool kids are doing the acog with a piggy backing red dot. I haven’t tried that personally because I’m not a kool kid.
The lpvo with a rds is pretty popular too. I do have this on one of my rifles. I basically leave the lpvo at max magnification since the reticle is set at max magnification. It’s not a bad setup. I don’t work with it enough to get good at the transitions between the two optics.
My preferred setup is a red dot with a magnifier. It’s heavy, but does everything I need it to do. I like 3x magnification, but just because that’s what I’m used to. Eotech is the king here, but also pretty spendy. Vortex and holosun have pretty good combos. Only thing I’d suggest is, buy a combo and don’t mismatch manufacturers. One companies cowitness might be different from another company and cause alignment issues so you would need different mounts, risers, etc.

I LOVE my ACOG, but equally HATED the RMR on top of it. Lifting my cheek up off the stock to see it felt ridiculous and hard to hit shit with. Mounted off the side at a 45° and tilting the rifle might not be as bad. If you buy my SCAR and ACOG you can swap them back and forth to see if you like it...

You're welcome to borrow the ACOG to try it if you like.

what model ACOG you got? I dont like the idea of the RMR, pretty much for your reason above.

I had to go with irons or lvpo on might. With my eyes red dots look like a bug on a wind shield.

Can't remember forsure, but I think TA01. 4x non-illuminated with cross hairs and no iron on top. I didn't want the illuminated ones when I bought this because with astigmatism it looks like shit. This thing is crystal clear. Nice crisp lines.

Copy that. What recommendation do you all have on LVPO's?

My only experience is on the lower to mid side. I have a Burris MTAC 1-4 that's pretty nice but I haven't used much because it's illuminated and my right eye just doesn't do well with illumination. I also had a few Strike Eagles 1-6 and 1-8 and I like them also.

You're welcome to try the MTAC also. If you like it, I can cut you a good deal on it too.

I've had a few Primary Arms 1-4 & 1-6 and liked them for the prices also.

Primary arms ones are probably best bang for the buck.

I used an Aero Precision Ultralight 30MM Scope Mount

You can take the throw lever off. It just unscrews.

I've been considering this one, especially since the price has dropped since it's introduction.

Idk if you’re still looking for, but this is a really good deal for a decent lpvo and mount. After entering the codes, it’s $299 before taxes. That’s what I paid for mine used.

With an AR you can usually get close enough to be on paper if you just lock the upper in something then look through the scope and through the barrel.

This.
I have a cheap laser that I'll shine through the bore and then line the scope up. Just setting up in the hallway, like 15 yards.

the last two LPVO's I have put on ARs have crazily enough been almost dead on with no adjustments right out of the box. The arken EP8 I papered at 15 yards with 2 shots saw where it was hitting and moved straight to 200 yards.
