Practical? Not sure about the bulkiness but for a shotgun I could see it being somewhat usefull.

if you need more than onee mag on hand seems the clamp for two or more mags together is much more win

I still think the only one that would be any bit handy would be the shotgun carrier. I think the ammo slings are to bulky.

If its metal, sharpen the edge like an axe and when you run out of rounds... Swing away.
