Re: Ruger Charger
Congrats on the new pick-up. New gun day is always fun.
This is a completely genuine question for anyone able to answer, but why would you want a Ruger Charger? Looking for a legitimate conversation, not bad-mouthing the gun or your decision to buy it.

Re: Ruger Charger
It looks like fun....
supposedly very accurate...I have a slight tremor so usually using a scope is very hard for me to use without a bipod.
I looked hard at a Savage Mark II in bolt action, but I just kept coming back to the charger.
I realized i enjoy shooting faster than I do working on sub 1" groups....
reliable platform with enough aftermarket parts to keep it interesting.
I already have a henry lever action and a ruger mark II pistol so this fills a hole in the need of a bench gun.
there is some amazing proof of what this thing can do at distance (50 yards) at the rimfirecentral site.
I totally agree it is a niche gun.
I've been thru too much in life to take offense to pretty much anything...internet questions have never bothered me.

Re: Ruger Charger
I like them. I have a Ruger 10/22 that used to be on my license as a rifle but I've had the cops change it to pistol. In my country that is possible if you have a good reason for it. We can only own 5 firearms and as I also wanted to shoot small caliber silhouette pistol, the police granted my wish (after 9 months of asking them to change it). So, I had a Charger type Ruger 10/22 even before the real Charger came out LOL! Good thing: we can put rifle stocks on pistols and longer barrels as well so with one firearm I can now shoot all the different sports I want with it.
Obviously, there were no barrels for it but I had a Butler Creek smooth bull barrel which I had shortened to 12 inch (our shortest for rifle is 12 inch) and still had the remaining part. My local gunsmith turned that part into a barrel. Mounted a Volquartsen overhung rail on it and I got some standard silhouette sights for it which he mounted nicely on the barrel and the rail. The stock is made by Boyds.
I love my Ruger as it's now a super versitile (SPELLING???) firearm for me and something I would never sell. Too bad my eyesight turned worse just after having it finished so I've never been really able to test it out at 110 yards![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)
In the pic I don't have the hood for the rear sight mounted yet.

Re: Ruger Charger
If you get bored with them you can make something completely hideous like this, shoots good but it sure is ugly. Cranky recrowned the cut off 10/22 barrel and made a big difference on accuracy.

Re: Ruger Charger
Ok, Ulwembu's answer makes sense... still not sure why anyone in the US would want it over a 10/22 with a bipod, though. Anyone?

Re: Ruger Charger
I'm sure we do, but I doubt most of the people with Chargers use them for that.Ulwembu wrote:You guys don't have small caliber pistol silhouette competitions?

Re: Ruger Charger
That's the freedom you guys have: we have to have a reason for owning firearms and the only reason is competition shooting or hunting (and for hunting you need to do a lengthly and costly course).
