I've had an XD 45 tactical I picked up second hand for a few years that was a fine gun. I could surely defend myself with it if I needed to. I traded it in on this Ruger 1911 that was going for 629.00 at an LGS and got as much for the XD as I originally paid. The improvement in my own ability to shoot a pistol was drastic and immediate. I'm bad about flinching hard until I settle in with a pistol but even with the flinch I could shoot better with this pistol. I've put about 500 rounds through it in the last week or so and it has yet to hiccup in any way. I understand now why some people like the 1911 so much. I have no plans to upgrade or alter it at all. I'm glad a friend who is a 1911 nut with stable of heavily modified Kimbers advised me to look at the Ruger.

I tell people all the time the Ruger is the best bang for the buck 1911 out there. All the qualities most want in a 1911 built nicely in the USA for a very reasonable price.

I have a Ruger 1911 commander. I bought it used and have yet to have any misfires. FTF or FTE. Currently it is my carry pistol. Can't beat it for the money spent.

Out of all the 1911's I have owned, the Ruger SR 1911 is by far my favorite.

Got one for my birthday, but that's not for a few weeks, yet, so I haven't gotten to shoot it yet. It does have every feature I could have asked for, save for night sights (yet to do)& a threaded barrel (done!), & none I don't care about. Can't wait to cycle a few rounds through it!

I have a hard time finding a single fault with the pistol. The trigger pull is a little stiff but I'm getting used to that.

I will be carrying mine as well. I take my CCDW class this Saturday. Once my crossbreed holster and belt get here I'm gonna finally start carrying on my person.

I didn't realize how well executed a 1911 the Ruger was when compared to others until after I purchased it. It's good to know other folks are having a similar experience with this one.

I love my one and only 1911! I do hope to own one or two more eventually. Hands down the most accurate centerfire platform in my hands...

Have a couple of 1911's and must say that my SR1911 is one of my favorites.

I am a big fan of Ruger rifles and shotguns, I was pretty excited when I heard they were making a 1911. I saw pics of a blued one but haven't seen one in person. I'm waiting for that one. Happy to hear people are pleased with it, I haven't even handled one yet even though they ahave been out for a while.

It hit me that my favorite guns are Rugers too. The ones I shoot the most are. There is one reason why. I shoot better with them for some reason. With my 10/22 I had some bolt and trigger work done and I did swap a a few parts in the Mark III 22/45.

With this 1911 though I'm almost afraid to touch it and set off a chain reaction of frustrations. It just shoots too well as is. I'm no pistol expert at all but I'm not sure I want a really light breaking trigger on a self defense pistol.

If it shoots well and you are happy with it now, I'd say leave it alone. If you have to mess with it, buy parts to swap in that you can mess with. Keep the originals in a bag in case you wreck it, and remember: don't mess with the big stuff (frame and slide). If you are "fitting" parts, fit the small stuff to the frame not the other way around.
