Anyone have any thoughts on these? I have never really considered them and that seems like a hell of a price.

That is a steal on a moderate rated 1911 copy.

I had the GI Expert and it went back for service twice for breaking extractors. Both were covered under warranty.

Para and Kimber are the only 1911's I will never have in my safe again, period.
Both their customer service depts. suck major ass and they will never fix the problem the first time.
I'd rather own another Lama 1911 than a Para.

I had a gi expert. It was a nice 1911. I probably shot it about 500 times. No issues. Very accurate. Came in a nice box.

Don't do it. Para has an iffy reputation at best. Buy an old whored out Colt or Springfield for a little bit more before wasting money on a Para. A Norinco is a better investment.

The only Para I would consider is an LDA but only because I'm curious about the trigger.

I have an old Para p16-40 its a double stack 40 cal, and accurate, made in Canada. Hey 300 bucks and Stainless! That would be a great gun to hammer and file on, for the beginner 1911pistolsmith.

I should rephrase my previous post.

I've never owned a Para. Many people say the Canadian made pistols are decent but they supposedly took a nose dive when they went south. But in all fairness, if you look on the internet you will always find people who are for something, and people who are against. I withdraw my recommendation to avoid them, as I have no actual experience with them.

I will try to refrain from being an internet expert from now on, but I promise nothing.

MK, my take is that Para's are hit and miss, ya might get one that runs or one that won't, I only bought mine cuz I got to torture test it from a friend before purchase, and besides a mediocre trigger ran great.
Hey come to think of it, I never would buy any used 1911 without shooting it first, for same reasons. I really like the JMB design, and been a fan of him since I did a book report on him after reading his biography in fifth grade parochial school library, but yrs as a pupil of Jerry kunhausen books, and thousands of dollars in parts, on several specimens seeking eight rounds of consistancy, I have since converted to high cap foreign 45's for arming the clan. But if I were gonna hammer and hone rails and fit parts to get to understand 1911's, 300 for a stainless specimen seems a bargain, provided the frame is in spec, and that's where ya roll the dice.
