Half a decade into its search for a new handgun, the Army has chosen Sig Sauer's version of the Modular Handgun System, according to a Thursday announcement from the Army.
The new sidearm will replace the M9 Beretta, the Army's pistol of choice for more than 30 years.
The rumor mill says Glock wasn't chosen because at this time they might not be able to fulfill such a large order (the recent FBI contract probably having a bit to do with that). Sig hasn't officially announced anything, and technically no one knows what the chosen pistol is, just that Sig will make it. Realistically, I'm sure it'll be a P320 variant.

Well I know what my next gun purchase will be. Been on the fence but now to decide between the regular p320 or the RX model.

So does this mean everybody will start bitching about their issued Sig now?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Not yet, but it does mean the SIG premium just went up.

No. I was thinking hard about that M9 they had, but it had a nice scrape in the finish. When I pointed it out the guy said"It will get beat up if used so why the issue." Did not want to take any off the price for that.

Recoil found a nice 92c on Armslist. I emailed the guy. No reply yet, been over a day. Might have sold it with the price he had posted

My recent cabelas experiences would say crap employee but ya never know. They seem to be going down hill in customer service side of things since the Bass Pro buy out. Just my experiences lately. Before the buy out i never had an issue.

looks like it is the RX model minus the sight cause you can see the plate on topic front of the rear sight.

There are two versions being produced with different barrel lengths. The 'full-sized version' has a 21-round magazine. The 'compact version' has a 17-round magazine. They are chambered in 9mm, and are going to have three frame sizes available with each weapon. The slide is milled to accept RDS's, so that is a potential expansion in the future. The weapon will also be suppressor-ready, so that will be a part of the modular concept.

Most of the nitty gritty questions I had were all given "TBD" answers. Evidently a lot of the deployment details (how exactly they'll be issued) will be worked out during the 2017 field testing. Note the rear sight built into the RDS cover plate...

From an article on Sig's SUBMISSION, not necessarily what will ultimately become the M17. Still, I'd expect the list of additions below to stay.
