Time to look for some AK-47 magazines

Post by BK Meyers » Sun Aug 24, 2014 7:51 am

Hey everyone,
I'm needing to buy some AK-47 30-round magazines for a Zastava N-Pap.

Would try the Magpul units but reviews seem mixed. Also unsure if they are in Gen2 on these yet (metal lined).

Tapco seems to get good reviews with notes that some units require some minor work on the locking tab. Price is right, have found them for as little as $6 plus shipping. A negative appears to be that the follower in the Tapco units is not designed for "last round hold open".

Found a source for military surplus mags, a 10-pack for approx. $92 shipped:

Your opinions or other options??

Thanks,
BK

Get real, steel soviet mags. Tapcos work, but drop a full mag, and watch it rain cartridges all over the ground. I haven't seen the MagPul AK mags, but as hot as an AK can get, I trust no plastics anywhere near it.

you can get the new steel Korean mags if you look for a sale for as low as $5 each.
Check Centerfire.

http://www.centerfiresystems.com/MAGAKA-KR30grey.aspx

here are the ones I was talking about.
My neighbor bought about 30 of these back in the spring; they were on sale for five bucks, I believe; he gave me a couple, and they are really good mags. Fit nice in the pap.
Centerfire and CDNN will run them on sale frequently.

I run nothing but the Magpul pmags. No issues here. As for tapco, i had 4 of them and when i had full 30rds in mag they wouldnt feed and mag was tight fit. If I have to modify then I dont need them. Sold all my metal mags and run only magpul.

I love the all steel Korean mags. I bought a ton at 111 in Louisville for about $6 each.

I still say that if an AK can get hot enough to set fire to the handguards, you have no business putting any plastic anywhere on an AK. And yes, the last time I took my AK to New Haven, we had the foregrip literally smoldering in short order.

Stick with steel. AIM, Centerfire Systems, CDNN, even Sportsman's Guide carry them on sale all the time.
