It's Multicam AND patch friendly. You'll be the coolest guy in the office when you walk in with that on.

You have to go full kit wearing one of those. If not, then any tactical office operator worth his salt will berate you till its removed.Whootsinator wrote:It's Multicam AND patch friendly. You'll be the coolest guy in the office when you walk in with that on.

That took some effort, but I refrained from purchasing. I'm sure tomorrow morning I will wake up and change my mind.

I grabbed one for a welding shirt since they are 1/3 the price of a nomex shirt

Sorry, guess it ran out. I'm not sure how long they last, but I can confirm it was working when I posted it.Next wrote:Whootsinator wrote:http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/ ... ?a=1869205

Not sure how well this will protect you from welding slag... it isn't a protective shirt really, so I'd expect things to burn through it pretty easily but it won't melt to your skin or sustain a flame well. If it does work well, the non-Crye standard Army Combat Shirt (ACS) is even cheaper and also non-melt, non-burn.PDM wrote:I grabbed one for a welding shirt since they are 1/3 the price of a nomex shirt

Yeah. Nomex is more protection from the initial flash and not sparks or welding slag, but PDM has proven himself a well educated member. I'm sure he knows that.

I know next to nothing about welding other than it involves hot metal, but I wanted to make sure no one thought these would be good to go as a fire suit or something

SH1844 gets you free ship and 15%
I need a new lightweight shirt for mig welding which doesn't have a lot of spatter. It's for working on cars (usually underneath), so a tight fit and mobility is what makes this shirt appealing over typical welding gear.
That ACS looks good too but it is a cotton blend and weld is hot enough to ignite cotton. The crye shirt is 100% aramid (the material class that Nomex and Kevlar belong to). You guys are on the right track though. Nomex is not for stick or gasless wire welding where you have heavy spatter. Kevlar (or leather) is better suited for that. Now here's the part that makes this shirt a deal. The material is Drifire Fortrex. It was developed by DuPont and falls in between Nomex and Kevlar on the toughness and flame resistance scale.

SH1692 20% off, free shipping.
Mine came today. I am 5'9", 165 pounds, I wear a small-regular ACU top, medium t-shirt, and I ordered a medium Crye Combat Shirt. It is more roomy than even a standard fit, NOT athletic at all. The sleeves seem very wide, even wider than is typical for a military top, and a bit long as is typical. I'd have much preferred a small, and I wear medium shirts. The build quality and material quality seem very high. They were new in the bags, with tags. Exclusive of "decorations", all listed materials are 100% aramid.

Re: Crye Combat Shirts, $53.55 shipped
The sleeves do adjust, of course, so the wide sleeves aren't that big of an issue. Solely for heat protection, the standoff between the material and your skin would probably be beneficial.
