World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
Download here: http://worldoftanks.com/en/content/docs/update/
World of Tanks is a team based online game available for PC and Xbox 360 dedicated to armored warfare in the early- to mid-20th century. At the start you're given a handful of very basic Tier 1 tanks from different nationalities. As you play matches you earn experience points to research different real-world tank components such as tracks, weapons, turrets, or engines, and additional tanks. Tanks are separated by tier (essentially level), nationality, and type (Light, Medium, Heavy, Tank Destroyer, and Artillery/SPG). A typical round lasts 10 minutes or so and pitches one team against another team, with the goal being to either eliminate the enemy team or capture a certain area by holding it for a long enough period of time. There is a matchmaking mechanic in place to make sure a late WWII Tier X masterpiece-of-engineering heavy tank doesn't get paired against a Tier I rinky-dink WWI light tank.
It is FREE, but has micro transactions to advance through the ranks (tiers) quicker if you wanted to. Paying or not paying does not have a significant impact on the results of any given match. The learning curve can be a little steep, as the game mechanics are fairly complex, but it's simple to jump into in the beginning. You can play with up to two friends at a time with a free account, and that is how I prefer to play. Operating as a team can be the difference between winning and ending up a pile of twisted metal.
The recommended system specifications (to play on medium detail) are pretty low. Most of you on desktops purchased within the last five years should be fine.
CPU Speed: 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2 GB for Windows 2000/XP, 3 GB for Windows Vista / 7
OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with 512 MB of RAM / ATI Radeon HD 3850 with 512 MB RAM
I've just recently gotten back into this game and it is a LOT of fun. If you have any questions or interest, send me a PM or post here. Maybe a couple of us can get together and blow up some tanks.

Add me, but put who you are on here. I have a few tier 9's (M103, T95, E75), but no money to buy my tier 10's. I play WoT probably too much.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
There is a bit of a land race to see which side will get the best positioning, yeah. Lower tier tanks have fairly thin armor and numerous weak spots. You'll figure out the best way to protect them.Toddstang wrote:Down loaded it. Not sure what the Hell Im doing but it seems like a tank race then a battle? Lots of fuel tanks and shit blowing up.
If anyone wants to play in a few hours I'll probably be on.

If you want some pointers, just ask. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way, but I have a lock on the do's and do-not's.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
There is voice activated chat in game, but only if you're in a platoon or team match. Knowing your tank is key, some tanks are snipers, some are brawlers... some penetrate a lot of armor and do little damage, some are manglers but can't defeat wet cardboard armor.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
Jakob, do you play Tier 5/6 much, or have a tank you enjoy in the 4-6 range?

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
Tier IV = Matilda (UK)Whootsinator wrote:Jakob, do you play Tier 5/6 much, or have a tank you enjoy in the 4-6 range?
Tier V = Sherman (US), BDR (French)
Tier VI = KV85 (Russian), Jackson (US)
I have at least 1 tank of every tier, 1-9. I added you to my friends list. If you see me online, just shoot me a message and I'll do the same. The KV85 is a HARD hitting heavy tank, but it doesn't have much armor and takes forever to reload. The Sherman is a really run tank, it's mobile with decent armor and gun. Are you a mobility player, sniper or brawler? German tanks are great for face hugging, my favorite tank in the game is the Tier VIII Tiger II.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
The German tanks are by far my favorite. With my TDs I play sniper, others vary by tank but I do tend to favor mobility above most else.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
Gold you have to buy with cash, silver is the money you can earn in game. To upgrade items, you first have to use experience to unlock it. Once it is unlocked, then you can purchase it. There are two types of experience, regular and free. Regular experience is earned only for that tank, free experience can be used on anything. You want to save your free experience as much as possible.
When upgrading your tank, I recommend the gun first. The tracks should be second, the reason being that the tracks determine how much weight you can carry. Upgraded equipment is heavier, so you need better tracks to carry more weight. Some tanks you can upgrade several items before needing tracks, other tanks you have to upgrade them first before anything else.

Re: World of Tanks - WWII Tank Combat Game
jmeister and Jakob, both added. Toddstang, what's your handle ingame?
You'll find out what you like best and how you play. Even when it comes to upgrades there isn't a strict rule that says 'upgrading this should be done before upgrading this', but certain tanks benefit from certain upgrades more than others. You can find RECOMMENDED upgrades and upgrade paths on the wiki. Personally, me being a mobility guy, I hate finding myself in bad positions and then taking eight days to reverse out of it, so I tend to upgrade my engine, then gun, then tracks IF I CAN. Like Jakob said, sometimes track upgrades are required, which can screw up your plan... especially when you spend 8k EXP on researching a part only to find you can't equip it until you install a 6k EXP track upgrade
I'm jumping on now.

Added. Just had one of my highest-earning games in my Tier 1. Not my greatest performance to date, but my highest earning Tier 1 for sure.
