Looking to buy a .300 Blackout upper

Post by Wyldman » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:53 am

Preferably from one of our local manufacturers that can make me a good deal on it. It will need the bolt carrier & bolt as well. Do I understand that these are the same parts as in an standard AR-15/M16 platform? Either a 1:8 16-18" chrome-lined chrome moly or SS barrel would be preferred, on a flat top upper.

Anone have any suggestions as to where to look or what specific parts to look for? I already have brass, dies, & bullets in hand (or will soon), what would be a really good source of load data for sub-, super-, and hypersonic loads? What powders are recomended? Any information that any of ya'll can share would be appreciated.

forgive my ignorance here but is the 300 blackout the same as the 300 whisper? I dabbled with the whisper for a few months and sold it awhile back. I have some reloading data for subsonic loads as well but have to dig it up of another computer hardrive.

What's the benefit if the 300 BLK versus a .223?

it shoots the 7.62 (.30 cal) round from a necked down 5.56 case. So it has quite a bit more punch on impact although it is a slower round and the range is less. but use a suppressor and subsonic round and it is about as loud as a airsoft gun!

I dont know if I believe that personally.I dont think I would hunt with it.Its just a bigger bullet, not a WSM or something. It would be awesome CQB or medium ranges but I would question long range.

The furthest I've had to shoot, while hunting was approx 75m.

I've never seen Pigman shoot a 300 Blackout. He usually shoots an LMT AR in .308 or .223 and lately he's been shooting a custom bolt gun called the Twisted Pig .338 which is a .500 Jeffries necked down to .338. I think I do remember him talking about a .300 King Hog though, but I don't think it's the same as a blackout?

I am also interested in the 300BLK. Most likely, unless I find a screaming deal, I will just build one. I just can't decide on what barrel length to use. I will eventually put a can on it, but that is a couple years down the road.
