? Colt SOCOM uppers
I have a guy offering me 3 complete Colt SOCOM 14.5" uppers with knights rails covers and rear sights. Says 2 are used and one is slightly used. Where would these come from and are they legit? I would be trading my saiga to them through FFL.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
My guess is they came from a police department that sold them to buy something better. Without a permanently attached muzzle device bringing the overall barrel length to 16"+ they would be considered short barreled rifles. It LOOKS like those are standard A2 flash hiders to me.
Define "legit", what information are you looking for specifically? Are they really Colt, are they really using an M4A1 barrel profile, were they really used by SOCOM?
Regardless of all of the above, I wouldn't make that trade. You'd be left with three moderately used, antiquated upper receiver groups, treading water in a sea of people trying to sell AR-15 parts.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
I have a sbr lower so im not concerned about the 14.5 thing. And if I could sell the other 2 for $500 a piece I'd be happy or trade. I was concerned about them being stolen from military or something.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
Your lucky to get $500 for a complete AR right now...Next week, who knows? The market is REEEEEEEEALLY whored up with AR's and AR parts right now.
Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
Its impossible to tell if they are being stolen. The military is getting rid of a lot of stuff these days, some to make room for newer stuff. They can only have so much on their books if I recall from my old days. Always throwing away or DXing it. They could be from police depts. as well or contract agencies. I don't know that they are old outdated but I would be concerned with how much they have been shot. Thousands of rounds through one would make it not worth very much to me.gaston_kalash wrote:I have a sbr lower so im not concerned about the 14.5 thing. If they are real knights rails in good shape with the covers you can probably get 100 each out of those. I would think if you work it right, you could get more out of the uppers. If you don't want to do the deal, sell your gun to me for 750 and give me his info and I will do it.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
two of the uppers are supposed to be brand new unfired and one is supposed to be slightly used. They all come with rails and covers. I have a extra rail righ now with the VG but no covers. They all also come with rear sight and are all complete with CH and BCG's.Dave1965 wrote:Its impossible to tell if they are being stolen. Is it me or does that rear sight look like it has paint over rust?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
I -highly- doubt they were stolen from the military. It's always possible, but if I bought them personally I wouldn't have any legal concerns except the SBR aspect if I didn't have a registered SBR lower.
You'll be very hard pressed to sell those for $500 in a market where people can buy relatively reliable, new, complete ARs for $550. Then again, Dave could sell beachfront property in Arizona... and it would miraculously exist.

I also have enough spare parts I could build a pistol lower and sell or trade. Maybe I could trade on to Dave for a bunch of mags lol.

How much do you all think I could get apiece for these uppers easily?

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
Tube looks fine to me. I guess you are talking about the one in the bottommost pic. I think its a part of the rail but not sure. Closeup would define for sure.
I guess two of them could be unused but maybe outer wear. Would depend on the bcg wear to tell if its for real (of course they could have been mismatched groups too). Since gaston was willing to take 750 for the rifle, I for sure would take a chance (after a few more close up pics) at $250 a piece. That's just my take on it though.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
$750 was for just the stock rifle I'm trading the rifle 7 mags and magpul furniture and some other stuff I have laying around. I'll have between 11-1,200 in the 3 uppers.Dave1965 wrote:Tube looks fine to me. I guess you are talking about the one in the bottommost pic. I think its a part of the rail but not sure. I'm not 100% familiar with this particular dialect sir, but I believe he's saying he doesn't think that sounds like a good deal, and that's he's shocked you'd consider it... almost laughably so.

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
If I can sell them for at least $400 a piece I can get my money back I have in the ak. So you don't think I can get that much?

Re: ? Colt SOCOM uppers
I was shocked you had that much in the stuff you were thinking of giving for the 3 uppers. The 750 would be a slam dunk. Not sure on the 1200 especially given the description you said (colt 6920's with colt uppers and different barrels...) I was like WTF. and would probably consider it if you could look at the uppers. However, please consider that PSA (which some people here don't like because of their customer service) has sales you can get a m4 type upper without the fancy rail, the bcg or ch for like 199 right now. Add 100 for the bcg and ch and you have 300 in it, and then buy a used KAC rail on ebay for 100 and you have 400 in it. Yeah its not a colt but it is brand new and decent upper. and its not a used colt that someone would throw on an Andersoned lower and have a FrankenAR. I doubt I would buy these for $400, so there is your WWDD (what would dave do).
