From a different forum: Stag upper goes boom on ATI lower

Album

Clearer pic of bolt

At this point, it appears to be an OOB explosion, due to some issue with either the BCG or the ammo since, if it was an in-battery explosion, the bolt and cam pin would have been destroyed and the FCG would have been damaged by the rocketing bolt carrier.

The owner said he only suffered minor lacerations. Hate to say it, but that lower appears to have let go in a way that prevented serious injury.

Agreed. Some things just weren't designed to be polymer. i.e. polymer 1911 = sacrilege.

I can't say I blame the lower one bit. Love the e-warriors blaming the lower though.

Only way I could see it possible is if the mag well depth being wrong and allowing the primer to be struck by the bolt face. Even that is improbable as it would likely just not feed at all

Polymers do just fine in most cases. I suggest instead of turning this into a polymer bashing party the focus should be on the cause and future prevention in which I doubt what the lower was made of had any thing to do with.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Agreed. It is just funny that so many people act like polymer is the consistency of glass and nothing can be made from it durable and yet all of the most durable pistols made for the last 20 years are made from polymer. If the mag was set to low then the first round being chambered should have beeen the one to blow and not his 5-6 round because the mag would have proved to been locked in after that many rds cycling.

Me too. I'll ask him. I doubt there was much left of it, or that he thought to look for the pieces.
