F'ed up ammo

Post by Niceguy » Thu May 02, 2013 8:29 am

I have the most f'ed up luck with ammo... Yesterday I fired this Federal brand .45acp round. All I got was smoke and no lead flying... Stupid ammo! I guess I need to get my ass in gear and start loading. That way I can only blame me if one eventually screws up one of my guns or blows my hand off... Anyone have any idea what would cause this? Bad primer or something in the loading process?

Looks like the primer is installed sideways. The primer fired but the flame did not get to the powder.. I have even seen a primer installed upside down. I always give primers a look when I open a box of ammo.
Cutting grass is the price I gladly pay for not being cold.

Always check the primer and bullet seatings as you load. Out of how many billions of rounds produced every year a few do get pass QC.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I have only ever found 1 factory load that was messed up, it was a 9mm Remington UMC and was seated way too deep. Other than that i have never had an issue with factory laods. But yea sometimes they slip through QC, so i always try to visually check while im loading.

I glanced at them but didn't look close. I shoot a fair amount so I guess just numbers wise I will get one every now and then. I need to get in the habit of looking over my ammo better.

I've seen a lot of bad Federal .40 S&W ammo from Wal-Mart.

Sent from up range, at about 3100 fps

This box came from Shooters. I never shop at Walmart. I have taken some Walmart ammo on trade and mark it when I do.

Shooters, LOL
Overheard them tell someone how much better their ammo is than the same stuff sold at Walmart. Walmart sells reject ammo they said, ours is more accurate they said.
BS!

Every round of the thousands of Tulammo .40 S&W and .223 I got from Wal-Mart has went bang, Winchester as well. Federal on the other hand, it mostly goes bang...mostly.

Sent from up range, at about 3100 fps
