Glock front site pop rivetted in?
Ok so I have my G19 with base sights, then my G17 with night sights.
Had a LEO friend use his tools to transfer the G17 night sights to the G19 sights and vice versa.
Well all went well with the back, but the front...
The G17 is like pop rivetted in and the G19 base has that nut/screw....
WTF?
How can I get the G17 front sight off, or can I buy a single night sight for the front of the G19?
The 17 is mainly a nightstand gun, with a flashlight so it doesnt really matter. Although I'd like to upgrade it eventually, sights, internals etc.
Thanks

Well like the front sight is not riveted
The front sight is removed by pullling/twisting off with pliers or in a vise
The 19 requires a small needle nose users or the Glock sight nut driver.
That is a thin headed fine threaded machine screw

LOL
Sounds like you shouldn't have the LEO PO'fessionals play with you handguns.
As Cranky stated,

Not doubting you crank, how much would you charge to do it if I brought it to you?
I feel like if I pulled it out with pliers or whatever how would I secure it back in?

You don't
Factory sites are one shot deals
Replace with new :
They are plastic

The factory sight can be removed and replaced more than once. There is a small pin in the center of the sight from the underside. I use a small hooked sharp scribe like thing. Hook the pin in the center of the sight remove it. It acts like a wedge. They'd squeeze the 2 ears of the sight together and push through the hole in the slide. To install it on another slide just insert the sight in the hole then put the little pin or wedge in the ears of the sight to spread them out and hold it on.

Re: Glock front site pop rivetted in?
Ok I stand corrected
Learned something myself
Anyway the little screw is doable with little pliers but is a pain
BTW the front sight removed with vise was taught to me by a Glock Armour

Re: Glock front site pop rivetted in?
The screw wasn't my concern it was the riveted or whatever you want to call it that's on the night sight

Re: Glock front site pop rivetted in?
Any night site for Glock I messed with used the screw to attach
So your question is answered
If you don't have a hooked scribe I do, just bring it by should not take long and a good price nada

Re: Glock front site pop rivetted in?
These are factory STAKED sights (usually provided to Law Enforcement).
I recently had an officer bring in one for coating & wanted to retain the factory sights. Unlike most aftermarket sights, there is no screw nor pin to push out as with the plastic ones...if you are CAREFUL, you can slightly raise the edges with a small chisel or pin punch, then carefully extract by wiggling them with square jaw pliers.
If this is done correctly, the staked portion will straighten & then allow for re-use! When re-installing, I recommend a dab of permanent lock-tite then peen the edges back over until flat.
NOTE: This is probably a 1-time thing, so if they have to come off again, plan on buying NEW sights.
Or save yourself some headache & just buy the new sights now!

Re: Glock front site pop rivetted in?
FWIW, anybody looking for a tool to replace their Glock front sight would be well-served with one of these:
http://www.drillspot.com/products/14435 ... nut_driver
$8.43 with free shipping is tough to beat. Works like a champ, too.
