Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
Requirements:
* At least 21 years of age, a resident of Kentucky (6 months is no longer required), US Citizen (or here legally IAW Kentucky Statutes), Active Duty Military, or Legally in the United States and can purchase a firearm under federal law. (Bring your ID)
Description:
As a student enrolled in the Kentucky Handgun Carry Class you will learn about:
* Kentucky’s CCDW laws
* Safety
* Firearms types
* Holster and other methods of carry
* Use of lethal force
* Basic Firearm maintenance
CCDW FAQ:
How much ammo do I need? You MUST shoot 20 rounds and you MUST hit with 11 of those. If you BOLO you get one retest immediately if you like. I recommend bringing more than 20 rounds. We can shoot a few practice rounds if you like and I especially recommend that if it is a new gun.
How long is the class? A minimum of 6 hours of classroom training. It usually goes just a bit longer, especially with new shooters in the class.
Can I bring my Desert Eagle 50? As long as you are buying the ammo, sure! You should bring what you plan to carry however.
What do I need to bring to class? Eye protection (Rx glasses are typically not adequate protection). Hearing protection. Your firearm. Ammo. Something to write with (a book is provided you can take notes in), proper clothing for shooting outdoors (yes we shoot in the rain, Nancy), and a good learning attitude.
What if I do not own a handgun? Send me a private message.
What about food? There are limited places nearby for fast food. You can also pack a lunch.
I turn 21 in two months, can I take the class now? Nope. The statutes require that you be 21 to attend the class. Your application will be kicked out if your DOB indicates you are not 21 on the day of the class.
What if I can't read or don't read English well? We'll muddle through. Pull me aside in the class and we can work something out.
What if I cannot pass the shooting portion of the test? Do I have to retake the entire course? No. We can retest on that portion at a later time once you have had time to practice. Of course there will be additional fees associated with another trip to the range.
What happens if I lose my certificate of training before I go to the Sheriff and apply for the permit ? The Kentucky CCDW class is good for life. If you lose your certificate and need a copy you can contact the CCDW Training division (see KSP website) for a copy.
Submit yours below if you still have any.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
Now is a great time to take your class if you have been putting it off.
The last class I did had a two week turn around from the time they turned in their training certificate (took a little over a week to get that) to the time the Sheriff's Dept. had the license on their desk.
CCDW division is caught up. It likely will not stay like that all year.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
It's not a big sign
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Thanks to everyone who made it out, everyone passed with relative ease and hopefully learned a few things.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
I found the legal portion although very boring, quite useful. Lots of good info. I look forward to getting my paperwork in a few weeks.

I submitted my paperwork on 2/10/14. Does anyone have an idea of how long it should take for me to get my notice to pick up my card?

Should be soon. They have been doing pretty well so far this year. I'll PM you the number to call and check status when I get to my book in a few.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
So, I found a number online to call regarding my notice to pick up my card.... Apparently they misspelled something on my original card so it had to be reprinted. The woman said I'll receive two notices. The correct one was mailed out yesterday according to her.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
I got my new notice yesterday that states that I can pick up my permit on or about 3/30. Should I wait till that day exactly or could I try sooner? The 30 is a Sunday.

Re: CCDW - Jan 18th
Call the sheriff's office & see if they have it. I plan on doing it myself on Friday, as mine is supposed to be there by the 30th, too.
